A man dedicates his life to public service to the state of Missouri, the state of Missouri and the MO Highway Patrol need to make sure that his life partner receives ALL of the benefits and support that a heterosexual;s spouse would receive during this difficult time. It is SHAMEFUL that Missouri Highway Patrol is FAILING to provide offical support to the grieving partner/spouse of a deceased trooper. I hope this nice man gets the benefits that all other spouses would get.

You can ALL thank the BIBLE THUMPERS and their ongoing hold on the "bible belt" states including MISSOURI. May also be due to the economy, it is like PULLING teeth to get these companies to PAY UP when the time of need becomes now.

This is so disheartening. I hope the state will change their minds. My heart goes out to this man.

Iam sorry, I have to disagree. The benefits that are paid are for officer's families. The dont pay to boyfriends or girlfriends, only to there biological or adopted children. I understand that they cant get married in Missouri, but you have to look at it this way, if a Police Officer is killed in the line of duty and he/she is single, what keeps someone from trying to say that they were there boyfriend/girlfriend to try and collect money for someone elses child? If Mr. Glossip wanted benfits for his son he should have let the Trooper adopt him and raise him as his own. There have been many Police Officers killed who are not married and the boyfriend or girlfriend did not receive benifits only parents or his/her biological/adopted children and most of that money is put into a trust fund for the children.

I do not find the fault with the MO Highway Patrol . . . the killed patrol man should of made this person his benefactor in everyway he could. It was his responsiblity to provide not the other way around. If his job stated a legal marriage for retirement benefits for a spouse then he should of worked in some other field or acted in changing the requirements.

I guess I'll be the first to say it outloud.... Reading that paragraph of brokeback drama made me want to puke. Is the "partner" uncapable of working and paying bills so he can keep his car and pay rent somewhere ? He makes it sound as if he's just thown out into the streets now. C'mon, is this a joke ?

This is why we need gay marriage. If they were able to be married like a male/female couple, this wouldn't even be an issue. If they were a straight unmarried couple, she would not be entitled to anything either, but they had the option of getting married. These men DID NOT have that option.

My heart goes out to this man and his his family. People need to wise up and realize gay marriage isn't going to effect straight people. These men have been committed to each other for 15 years. He deserves the same benefits as any other couple. Hang in there Mr. Glossip, our thoughts and prayers are with you.

What does the anchor woman mean by "SAYS he was the partner?" He either was or he wasn't, and clearly he was. She's unnecessarily implying that he might be lying about their status as a couple--and slandering his character in the process. If this story were about a heterosexual couple who'd been living together for 15 years, I don't think there would be any question that they were together or not. Shame on you, Missouri. And the rest of America, for not treating gay couples with the equality and dignity they deserve.

And another thing. Why no statement from the Missouri Highway Patrol? Officer Glossip was a HERO. He died a hero's death trying to help a member of the public, and now that his partner is seeking the help he deserves the MSP give him the could shoulder?? That is unbelievably cruel, callous and homophobic. I wonder if anyone among the MSP ranks even knew about Mr. Glossip's sexual orientation. I'm guessing that few if any did, but they should look into their hearts, and look themselves in the mirror before passing judgment on him in death. That is not for man to do, but with laws which make gay couples second class citizens, it is what is happening.

Mrs. Gatewood -- this man's partner died in the line of service. He dedicated his life to protecting people like YOU, and that's the best you can do? You should be ashamed.

It has everything to do with the law. He needs to get the law changed, because if he is not the beneficiary and not married, he gets nothing. Like everybody else. It's not fair that he can't get married, THATS THE PROBLEM. Not the bigotry of the people handling his boyfriends money.

I realize this is not the politically correct statement to make but I will make it anyway. I read some comments here about the bible thumpers, well I guess you are referring to me because I believe what the bible says about the SIN of Homosexuality. I watch this grown man with fake tears in his eyes trying to break the law and get death benifits illegally. Just being a boyfriend or girlfriend is not the same as being a spouse and it never will in the sight of God. I realize that saten has deceived many people in our sociery to accept sin as right and right as sin, but the bible that you hate so much says "God is not mocked, whatsoever a man soeth that shall he reap" it also says "One day every knee shall bow and every tongue shall confess Jesus Christ as Lord" When a person sowes the sin of Homosexuality he or she will reap the rewards of that sin.

It is a very sad story and something does need to be done in order to reach a positive result for this fallen troopers partner.

But; I'll have to agree with another commenter that marriage is between a man and a woman. I haven't read the bible entirely but for the parts I did read it read, "Adam and Eve" not "Adam and Steve".

The bible also says we are all created in HIS image. For every bible quote you can make against homosexuality there is another to clarify or dispute your interpretation. You say you believe the bible and what it says about the SIN OF HOMOSEXUALITY, does that mean you do not believe what it says about other sins? Do you work on Sundays or do you dedicate the day to the Lord? Have you ever taken the Lord's name in vain? Whatever happened to "hate the sin, not the sinner" and it's my understanding that we are all sinners and that is why Jesus died on the cross for our sins. What sins have you sown that you will reap the rewards for?
As for this man's 'fake tears', how ever would you know whether his tears are fake or truly attributed to the loss of the man he spent 15 years with. It is also my understanding that the couple were members of a church in their area. So perhaps they have made their peace with the God.
As for breaking the law by asking for benefits, I think that is a stretch, perhaps the laws banning same sex marriage are illegal. The Constitution of this great United States reads, "All Men Are Created Equal". Besides, the benefits he is asking for are not written in law, they are from private, nonprofit organizations. Organizations who stress that the loved ones of fallen officers will be taken care of in their untimely death. That is how they raise the millions of dollars in donations every year.
ps. The bible should also guide you to use your spellcheck, your spelling is attrocious
