Shale we dance?
New regulations proposed by the Bush administration are aimed at tapping the country's huge reserves of oil shale, steps Interior Secretary Dirk Kempthorne said are intended to reduce America's dependence on ...

When I read stuff like this:
"President Bush, meanwhile, called for faster motion on oil shale in his pro-drilling speech last week, arguing, "We should expand oil production by tapping into the extraordinary potential of oil shale." And in the Senate, Republicans have introduced the "Gas Price Reduction Act of 2008," which would lift the moratoriums on finalizing oil shale regulations and offshore drilling. "With oil shale we know the oil is there," said Utah Republican Senator Bob Bennett, when the bill was introduced last month. "We know the potential is there and no one is going to examine it until the rules are drawn up."" ...it becomes clear just how corrupt the Republican Oil Cartel has become. They try to create the impression that oil shale is drillable oil, when in reality it is kerogen rock, which is not even oil, but a pre-stage of oil and has about the enrgy density of a baked potato. Coal has six times the energy density of so-called oil shale rock and it makes no sense whatsoever to go after it as long as we have coal. But Bush/Cheney/McCain etc. will likely go on, continuing to try and give the false impression that this is oil that is easily available. Larry, Independent TX voter |

Thank you for that information. You sem to hzave contempt for this form of oil. Is it that low in quality? How about oil/tar sands? are they exploitable now? I am unsure, because the price of energy has climbed so high that what was once unfeasable is now possible. |
That's just it... it ain't oil, it's kerogen. Bush is trying to fool people into thinking that it makes sense, but it's basically fool's gold. It would make more sense and be less expensive to make synthetic fuel from coal than to process "oil shale". wind/solar/cellulosic fuels will all be less expensive than oil shale, and they won't be dirty. Here's a pretty good article about "oil" shale: http://www.energybulletin.net/node/11707 Larry |

Bush needs to quit trying to do anything else for the rest of his term. He should be traveling from state to state apologizing for his mistakes. There needs to be a hold on Bush being able to make anymore decisions until November. Then he can decide where he will reside.

I like McCain & I hope he don't think the same as the rest of Republicans who suck up for drilling more domestic oil.
The Republicans believe that producing more domestic oil & use less is the answer to the gas price crisis.President George Bush announced at the state of the Union 3-4 years ago that Americans are addictive to gasoline. Well, just like saying to Americans, here have some more drugs & cocaine but you need to use less. The Republicans thinks that Americans are that stupid or maybe the Republicans is right. I can't depend on Obama in protecting our great nation. But I'm out of work right now & Democrats is the only one cares about the economy & on how I can put food on my family table & pay my bills.Do I really give a crap about war in Iraq? |
