They should not be issued a check or food stamps if they cannot take a negative urine test. The only exception should be for individuals who have prescriptions from a legitimate doctor. Too many "recipients" abuse the system and I am personally sick of it. It disgusts me to see so many of them run around doing nothing except chasing their next high, all on the tax payers dime.

Absolutely! I know of several people that do not need an assistance check but receive one. Many of these people spend much of their time partying. The next day they are "too hung over to look" for a job. Then that evening "feel bad about not having a job" so they need to party to escape. Get the idea? NO job, now or in the future!

I just want to add that I know there are people out there that do need assistance. Yet, it seems like the ones that really need it, either can't get it or they are too ashamed to ask for help. Welfare was not created for people to live on. It was created to help people when they are going through rough times until they can get back to a place where they can provide for themself. I agree with Southern Pride because I have seen women like she is describing. I really do think that we need different rules or stricter enforcement of the existant rules. It is quiet obvious to me that the current system IS NOT working!

Yes, I think they should be tested. Most of those ppl are receiveing free money each month and are able to work. If they dont want to be tested, the benefits should be stopped.

Is there really a question? I don't care how much money it costs! In the long run, if you get rid of some of the freeloaders it would pay for itself.

I definately agree that they should be tested. We as taxpayers dish out enough already. If all the people on SSI and welfare, were tested randomly, I believe half or more of those would test positive. I don't understand the system....never will.

What a bunch of bull. The US has the most imprisoned population in the industrialized world now you want to drug test millions of people. While you are at it why don't you drug test all the workers on Wall Street, who are responsible for billions of dollars every day.

Do you believe that it is ok for the government to be giving these people a monthly check to buy drugs? The workers on Wall Street are actually working for a living. They make their money just like the rest of us taxpayers.

I don't spend my hard earned money on drugs.(If I did it is none of your concern.) However, if you are going to spend MY tax payer money on drugs then it becomes MY concern. If they test positive, simply stop the check. Life is full of choices that you must make. Doing drugs is a choice that I don't feel like paying for.

I agree wild and wonderful, Its a choice that they make each day, so Its a choice that the Government should want to drug test these ppl. It shouldnt be up to the recipeants, It should be up to the Tax payers, since thats whos really paying for these monthly checks

I have always felt that there is enough trash for the people that are on welfare to earn their keep. If these people are able to have kids then they are able to work.........most jobs are not as hard as keeping children. I also feel that if you are on welfare then 2 children should be all that you are able to have. There are to many people that have kids that they are not able to support to just get more income from welfare....if you cannot afford to have them then we the tax payers should not have to foot the bill for them. Welfare is great if it was used like it was suppose to be but like everything else people have learned how to work the system. All these welfare and SSI people sure do not have a disability out everyday making trip after trip to the junk yard getting money for the stuff they have went out and found. They are not paying any taxes what so ever on this money....free and clear while every penny we make is taxed. Something is wrong with this system. If you took pictures of these people and sent it to the DHHR they would not do anything about it, so while we are out busting our butts to make enough money to cover all the expenses these people sit at home and wait for the checks to come in-don't forget these same people get the clothing allowance this month....what do the working people get.....nothing. Work more to get the money to but the kids their clothes and stuff to start to school. Then the world wonders why people are go aggravated!!!!! I have nothing against people that truly needs help in getting it but you let a working person get hurt and down and out and see what they are told......sell what you have and when there is nothing left then come back and we will see if you then qualify.....it would be the welfare receipants that would come and buy the crap from you because they have the extra money to do so. DOES NOT SEEM QUITE RIGHT DOES IT?

DOES NOT SEEM QUITE RIGHT DOES IT? I understand your frustration completley. I have raised my children without medical insurance, and have had to pay dearly for office visits and prescriptions when needed. My husband works 6 days a week and has worked 7 in order to provide for our family. He got his first job at the age of 15, and has held a job since then. I thank God for his job, although we don't always have an easy time. We had to pay ,with no help from the government, for our daughter's secondary education, the first full year of her school. When she went to apply for grants, the first question asked was, "Are you a single mother?" Unfortunately, she is not, so......I am not against help for those in need, but I am against helping those who refuse to help themselves. These recipients have many more opportunities for education than an "A" student just out of high school. They can recieve grants to pay for everything right down to buying their lunch daily. Working people that are trying should have these same opportunities since they are the ones paying for all these single mothers education. This is very frustrating to me.

Wow, this is a tough question. I wouldn't refuse a drug test, but I don't use drugs. Individual rights vs. the best interest of society as a whole. I think it should be an all or none kind of thing. Drug testing to get your drivers licence renewed? That would make a lot of people angry! Drug testing before you get utility service? Where do you draw the line? If you don't want to get drug tested at work, you get another job. That's your choice. See what I'm getting at? So I don't know the answer to this one.
