If you are in your house reading and posting comments, be thankful and pray for those who are in need during this very tragic time. God be with all of us!

I'm watching the combo coverage of both WAVY and Fox News from here in Alabama. The people around here know what you're going through, especially after our Prattville and Enterprise tornadoes. Trust us, we're feeling you, and we're praying for everyone there.

I grew up in Norfolk, Chesapeake, area and have never heard any thing about tornadoes in the area.
Am I mistaken on this or is this a new weather pattern. I want to tell everyone I'm thinking of them.

My heart goes out to all of the victims throughout Southeastern Virginia, especially in Suffolk, my home town. I and and an old high school friend of mine were in downtown Atlanta night on Friday, March 14th when a tornado tore through downtown Atlanta. It is a very scary thing to go through and the skyscrapers in Atlanta still bear the scars a month later. Good luck to you all as you begin your recovery!

I hope everyone is ok. It's really scary out there how dramatically the weather has changed. We rarely see tornadoes like these out here!

Tornados are not that rare in this area. Just 1 week ago there were 2 in Maryland, one ripped a roof off a school in Prince George's county. My co worker was driving her bus back to church, it was raining then no warning and the tornado was over the road. It blew out a window and broke the door.
We need to have SIRENS like they do in the Midwest so people can go to shelter.

I am so shocked and upset by this. I live in Colonial Heights and we had one here too. I lived in Suffolk for 15 years and I know so many places that were destroyed. Both my homes, I can't believe it. I hope everyone is okay. It's so scary that we got tornadoes that big and damaging in VA.

I am praying for all of those people who were in the area when the tornadoes struck. I saw the funnel clouds forming from Main street in Suffolk. I was heading toward Kings Fork Middle. The dark clouds looked as if they were being pulled by something in the distance. The clouds raced across the sky, twisted, fell to the ground and were gone again. It all happened in a matter of seconds.

People in Atlanta had no more than a 5 minute warning that a tornado was coming. The SEC Basketball tournament was going on in the Georgia Dome and the storm ripped the roof on the building scaring people in the stands to death, blew out windows in the CNN Center, The Omni Hotel, the Westin Peachtree Hotel (the glass tower with the outside glass enclosed elevator), the Equitible Tower, Bank of America Tower and others. Numerous homes and businesses were damaged or destroyed and even the city's oldest cemetery, Oakland Cemetery, was heavily damaged. My friend and I were trying to leave downtown in my car, and were about 1/4 mile from the epicenter when it struck in the darkness. It was really scary. One moment it was not raining, the next it was pouring and then the rain and traffic lights began to blow sideways. It only lasted a few seconds but that was enough. Five minutes is not enough warning and it could have been much worse. There were approximately 17,000 people in the Georgia Dome at the time the roof ripped and the scoreboard swayed back and forth over the basketball court.

My son was driving his car along I164 at the College Drive exit and said a funnel cloud was coming down right above his car - debris flying everywehere. My friends parked car at Obici Hospital was thrown across the highway. It's a miracle that more lives were not lost. I pray for all those affected by this tragedy.

We moved from Burbage Grant in Northern Suffolk (near the TCC Portsmouth Campus) as well as in Western Branch and Norfolk.

Our prayers go to all in Hampton Roads.

Can anyone tell me if Burbage Grant or if Norfolk were hit at all?

The wild thing is, the Twister in Colonial Heights, VA followed the EXACT same path as the one about 15+ years ago. It followed the Appomattox River all the way through the South Park Mall. I'm just glad it didn't get Petersburg.

For all down in Norfolk, I heard NNS was just hit as well. Does anyone know which installation was damaged?
