Guns in restaurants draw stares but little outcry

The patrons at Champps, an upscale restaurant and bar chain, were eating ribs and drinking beer on a recent Saturday when customer Bruce Jackson stood up and made an announcement: He was armed, and so were ...

Sounds like a bunch of cowboys too me. There is no reason for them to need a gun. These are probably middle aged white men who have brought into the Republican fear that the Black man is going to get them. Better get strap on your guns boys.

I'm glad the restuarant managers are asking them to leave! I wouldn't want to eat with a bunch of crazy gun nuts. What happens when these people start drinking. They were lucky there were no accidential shootings.

Law abiding - open carying - prohibited from drinking - responsible gun owners HG. Adults, not cowboys. PS.. no such thing as an accidental shooting. Act of commission or act of omission, ie.. carelessness. This applies to all so called "accidents".

You know I'm right Bubba. Maybe you having a shutgun for hunting is okay, but there is no reason for people to be going out to eat in a fancy place dressed like cowboys.

Now I'm sure having a gun makes them feel like big men and all, but please give me a break.

Gee, I guess in Virginia no one has ever been mugged, attacked, raped, robbed or murdered while going out to eat at a "fancy place"...

HG, you are just too funny! I bet you are a 50 year old white guy pretending to be a black liberal just to stir up trouble. You probably voted for Nixon back in 1972 and have a collection of pistols and rifles. Fess up!

Sounds like HG needs his medication. You are the only paranoid one. The concealed carry crowd in every state have lower crime statistics than about any other group but nuns. And you are more likely to be accidentally shot by cops than by concealed carry permit holders. So go get that prescrip of yours refilled and chill out.

I think more people should "Open Carry" in places besides restaurants. Knowing that there are armed, law abiding citizens deters crime. If I can prevent a crime, innocent person being killed, or becoming a crime victim myself, because I am carrying then I'm fine with that. I'd rather be judged by 12 than carried by 9.

Osama obama is done. Stick a fork in him. First he deals with known criminals, then he sticks up for his racist buddy. Hillary did a better number on him than the repubs ever could have.

Again, more of that projectionism. Guess that's part of the whole pedophilia thing, huh?
Typo, I mean to write "shotgun", not "shutgun".

Why you calling me a pedophilla? I don't lust for children, never have - what is this some kind of new racist attack to discredit me?

Why don't you find me some news stories in Hampton Roads where people carring guns in resturants have saved lives? Carring guns is all about 'what if' stuff. I don't carry a gun and I have never had a problem. My workplace, my church, and my home are all Gun Free Zones and we have never had any problems with violence.

Daily Press, Newport News, VA, 07/15/06
State: va
Morris Brown had just dropped off a friend at an apartment when two men stopped him and asked for drugs, said police. When Brown replied that he had no drugs, the men announced they were robbing him. A third man approached from behind and grabbed Brown while the other two started beating him. The men stole Brown's keys, cell phone and wallet and started to walk away. Brown probably would have let them have his property in exchange for his life, but then the man who had approached Brown from behind pointed a handgun at him. Brown, who has a concealed-carry permit, drew his pistol and shot two of his assailants. One man died at the hospital. The man who pointed a gun at Brown fled the scene when the shooting started.

Arlington Sun Gazette, Arlington, VA, 09/01/05
State: va
When an armed citizen confronted an alleged burglar inside his northern Virginia home early one morning, police say the intruder ran from the family room to the bedroom of the homeowner's teenage daughter. A struggle ensued and ended when the homeowner shot the intruder in the face. The suspect fled on foot, but was arrested at the hospital when he sought treatment.

The Dickenson Star, Clintwood, VA, 12/22/04
State: VA
As Clyde Colley looked down at the gunshot wound in his leg and then up at his wife, he decided that if he did not do something, they would both die. Almost two hours earlier, two men had broken into their Sandlick, Va., home, shot Mr. Colley and ordered the elderly couple to get on the floor. As one of the intruders held the couple at gunpoint, the other ransacked the house. Finally, Colley said that he was not feeling well and needed to go to lie down. This excuse gave him enough time to get to his gun, which he fired twice, killing one intruder and sending the other fleeing into the night. As their phone lines had been cut, Mrs. Colley was forced to run down the driveway and flag down help. Police later apprehended the surviving intruder, Mazel Sexton, and charged him with numerous felony counts. Colley was not expected to be charged in the death of the intruder, who was identified as Hubert Howard, Jr.

A passer-by noticed that a robber had pulled a large knife on a clerk at an Ivanhoe, Va., gas station. He entered the station as the would-be robber demanded cash, and drew a handgun. The would-be robber fled the scene empty-handed.

Richmond Times-Dispatch, Richmond, Va., 10/14/04
State: VA
When two men approached a Henrico County, Va., man who was visiting his girlfriend's Richmond, Va., apartment, late at night and tried to rob him, they found out that their victim wasn't as helpless in the face of two-to-one odds as they thought. The intended victim drew his handgun and, after a struggle, fired and, wound both would-be thiefs. He then called the police.

Lots more where those came from in "peaceful virginia"...

HG - good to hear from you.

Remember Luby's Cafeteria in Killeen, TX years ago? That was a gun free zone but for some reason the psychotic murderer didn't care about that.

One young lady, a law abiding citizen that carried concealed did take note of the gun free zone and secured her pistol in her car before meeting her parents for lunch.

The father of that same young lady charged the murder and was shot. As her mother held her dying husband in her arms, she was shot also - both died in front of their daughter.

BTW HG, VT was a gun free zone for students and staff also...see how much good that did.

HG, when are you going to place a huge sign outside your house letting everyone know that it is a GUN FREE ZONE. Or are you not committed to your anti-gun cause to that degree?

"Thus the peaceable part of mankind will be continually overrun by the vile and abandoned, while they neglect the means of self defence. The supposed quietude of a good man allures the ruffian; while on the other hand, arms like laws discourage and keep the invader and the plunderer in awe, and preserve order in the world as well as property. The balance of power is the scale of peace. The same balance would be preserved were all the world destitute of arms, for all would be alike; but since some will not, others dare not lay them aside. And while a single nation refuses to lay them down, it is proper that all should keep them up. Horrid mischief would ensue were one half the world deprived of the use of them; for while avarice and ambition have a place in the heart of man, the weak will become a prey to the strong. The history of every age and nation establishes these truths, and facts need but little arguments when they prove themselves."

HG, I don't know about Newport News, but across the water down in Chesapeake the average police response time to a 911 call for help is 9.5 MINUTES. Pickup your cell phone and a watch and see how many times you can yell help help help in 9.5 minutes.
In my world there's only 4 words: STOP, DROP THAT WEAPON, and maybe not even that many.
The difference is in reality you'll be stopped
by word 5 or 6 and never speak again, while I'll be alive to then call 911 and go home to my family that night.

HG,
You ought to ask Gov. Kaine why he veto'd concealed carry carry in restaurants, that mandated no alcohol consumption, yet Commonweatlth Attorney's, with no requirement for training that we CHL holders must certify, to carry and consume at the same time. I don't know about you Sir, but I'd be more wary of a Lawyer with a Drink and an Automobile (see Sen. Kennedy, Rep. Kennedy, et al) and a Firearm, than I would a thousand law abiding Virginia CHL holders. When armed, we tend to be more polite and much more law abiding that the average citizen, as we have much more to lose, wouldn't you say?
