Please, El Paso can't even run bus service after 8pm. It will never happen. It would take a miracle to see a high speed train from El Paso to Denver. A bonafide miracle to modernize transportation into the heart of Denver from El Paso who is still stuck in the 1980's in more ways than one.

Look to the future. Get this done, sometime. Hell Paso needs to look to alternative transportation to have any chance to get out of its all-too-familiar position of languishing among medium sized cities. I don't condone waste; however, train travel is the civilized way to go.

How do people expect anything new to come when people just criticize? People need to stop criticizing. This rail system promotes economic development instead of just staying in the old ways we are now. If Japan and Europe have high speed rail and we are one of the leading countries of the world we should be able to develop high speed rail systems. Even if the train stops at locations such as Pueblo and Colorado Springs that is just more locations we can take advantage of. This train could promote tourism to El Paso and also ease the commute to El Paso from Las Cruces and vice versa.

This is just a faster way for illegals to spread to the rest of the country... Denver will now have a Chico's Tacos on every corner, Walmart bags flying all over your city, and people that refuse to use turn signals! Enjoy!

"Shapleigh said he would like to see any feasibility study into high-speed rail in the region include lines heading south into Juárez and Chihuahua City." Why? Does Shapleigh work for Texas or Mexico? Let's get this done for the city of EL PASO first please.
I know there are a lot of naysayers, but I have to hold out hope for my sons futures. If this did come through, El Paso would represent both the start and end point of this proposed rail system. Is it inconceivable to think that maybe the folks in Austin might decide one day to tie into the line?

One can smell the opposition from the repubs unless there is some way for their pockets to be lined. The next rail can be from EP to Phoenix to Las Vegas, then to LA. Ooolala.

It's about time for El Paso to join the ranks of the more progressive communities. High speed rail is the wave of the future in mass transit. Most industrialized nations have already embraced this notion and have developed efficient, safe and affordable high speed rail systems to serve their populations. Unfortunately, the US has been held back by long time and intense lobbying by the auto/oil corporations which would be impacted by affordable and efficient rail service. A high speed rail line connecting El Paso to Las Cruces to Albuquerque to Denver and beyond would be fantastic.
Naysayers need to get their heads out of the sand and see the light.

How about El Paso to Houston through San Antonio or Austin (Which eventually would make a nice connect to the west coast and the current Denver proposal)?

How about they just tell all the El Pasoans that it's going to all these nice places, but instead drops them off in Juarez! I'd spend my tax dollars on that!

Do you realize that going from El Paso to San Antonio, Austin, and then to Houston, is going EAST? Then you want it to go back to the west coast. Its a wonder that you want the rail system to look like a big question mark...

Haters! You all can't just leave it alone and always bring the subject of immigration along. Stop blaming all this countries stupid problems on illegals, Al Qauida, or anyone else you can think of and plain and simply just shut the hell up! This story is about something that will benefit the community of El Paso as a city and pessimist racist ignorant people like you two commenting here always have to put a dent in any situation.

WHAT??? All this sounds great and exciting!!! But then it states "About 30% are people from Juarez".Of those 30%,how many will be paying customers??? And it also says "To maximize the trade value of the new corridor,we MUST include Mexico." Aren`t we trying to keep the illegals out of the USA? And now we will be giving them more leeway more areas for them relocate. And you need another STUDY??? I see more corruption up ahead.

Albert,we are not haters .It is just that the true HARD WORKING Mexican no longer exist.Especially the latest men that have crossed over illegally as you probably did. These guys just HANG out at any hardware store and expect the job to come to them. Many years ago I remember these guys going door to door asking if they could clean your yard. They would NOT stand at a corner and wait for a job to come to them.I see many of these guys selling pirated DVDs {$5.00} that they pull out of their backpacks. This way they don`t do hard labor and it becomes easy money. We are tired of getting ripped off by the illegals,we are not haters of them, just their bad habits.

When Perry became gov he had a vision of Tx being united by rail lines and buses traveling in the center of the interstates. If Richardson can pull this off, maybe El Paso will belong somewhere and its citizens can travel out of the area without a car and without having to sit at a terminal for hours waiting for a connection. It would be great for tourism - if El Paso can get its act together and advertise something that would attract people from Denver, Santa Fe, Albuquerque and even Las Cruces. This area is filled with history. The Generals just ain't gonna do it.
