The guy should be shot to death - he deserves to die! When are we going to stand up and realize that people like him need to go back to where they are from - let them live over there in the war torn areas if they dont like it here. Plus, you join the service, did you think it was going to always be a bed of roses. Hello - military personnel do have to go to war at times and that is what you sign up for!

Can we ban guns now? Or do we need a few more mass murders? This guy was clearly able to buy handguns with severe mental and emotional problems. If he wasn't able to, than 13 soldiers would be alive right now. Disgusting if you ask me.

50,000 soldiers on base and it takes a civilian LEO to put this dog down? Am I missing something? Somebody has some serious explaining to do.

How about right after we ban criminal behavior? Oh, wait, we've already done that. Guess the criminals didn't get the e-mail.

He was born and reared in Virginia. His parents are Palestinian immigrants, but he is as much a U.S. citizen as anyone.

October 16, 1991: George Hennard, 35, smashed his pickup lorry through a Luby's Cafeteria window in Killeen, Texas, and fired on the lunchtime crowd with a high-powered pistol, killing 22 people. At least 20 others were wounded.

He wasn't a muslim, so whats his excuse & actually whats the excuse behind all the mass murders that take place on American soil?. America is full of gun & violence worshipping psychos, regardless of their religion or background.

What a horrible tragedy, especially right before Veterans Day. For our soldiers who are willing to risk their lives for our country to be killed by a fellow soldier is heartbreaking.

In response to Col_Res' post, this is not a situation that calls for banning of guns. This man could have grabbed anything (a knife from the kitchen, even a two-by-four like those kids in Chicago) and killed someone. What happened at Fort Hood only proves that people kills people, not guns. After all, aren't our troops fighting for our freedom and to uphold the Constitution (which protects our freedom of speech, freedom to bear arms, etc)? Once we erode our basic freedoms, what else will be taken away?

Um, he was in the Army. Do we ban guns from the military too? There will always be a way for the criminals to get guns. Think about the 72-year-old woman here in Columbus who if it weren't for the handgun in her purse would have possibly been dealing with burying her entire family after a man tried to rob them in their hotel room. There are people out there who use guns responsibly. Punishment for all because of the crimes of others will never work and is unAmerican.

I don't think we can dispute that anyone of any religion or ethnicity is capable of mass violence. But we also can't dispute that it is more than mere coincidence that this killer's religion does tie in with his objection to the war in the Middle East (which is against terrorist groups who believe the same religion he believes). And earlier this year, when that Muslim convert shot those two military guys in the recruiting center, because he objected to the war? Either the media is really biased and only reports mass killings of soldiers when it's a Muslim perpetrator, or there is a definite link between religion, objection to the war and the violence.

Ok, I'm going to say this once:
1st My condolences go out to the family involved, because this was very tragic.
2nd, just because we have a new president whether black, blue, green, red or yellow, does NOT mean they can just STOP a war that has been ongoing for so long.
If we as a people wanted to stop a war, we should have done that when Bush Sr was in office and kicked up the 1st one in my time.

I have spent 16 yrs in Active duty, Active Reserve, and now Inactive, and although I hate to be deployed, and I dislike seeing my friends, loved ones being deployed, it’s a job we have to do. We always knew the possibilities of War when we enlisted. Now with that being said, too completely pull out ALL troops would be DISATEROUS! We think it’s bad now, trying pulling them all out at once, and you will see a CHAOTIC episode.
I know some people don't like Pres Obama, and they think he is moving real slow, but ending a war that took some one over 8 yrs to begin, takes time, you just can't end it in 8 mons. It doesn't work like that.

So with that being said, I pray all the hateration, the lying, the greediness, the "I want to be a chief, and not an Indian", recession eventually slows up and one day comes to a halt.

If This Major didn't like what he saw, he could have done something more positive than take folks lives to catch the nation's attention. While the war was getting started , he benefited by going to school, and guess who paid for it...now it wants it to end on his say so.....yeah we missed something on his evaluations. He will have to deal on judgment day for his actions, and I doubt if they can be justified in any way!

Huh. No wonder we are losing the war on terror. One man takes a whole fort hostage and it takes a parking ticket cop to apprehend the shooter. Wow. I'm starting to see why Fort Hood is home of the most casualities.

Dennis Andrew Nilsen killed at least fifteen men and boys in London between 1978 and 1983. Jamie Bulger was 2 years old when he was murdered by 2 ten year olds. What's the excuse behind all the sick murders that take place on British soil?

US military personnel, professionals in the use of firearms, are not permitted to carry private weapons onto military installations. Even with a state-issued concealed carry permit. So while travelling to and from work in uniform military personnel are sitting ducks for these types of incidents (not to mention while at work, apparently).
Sitting ducks, right in our own country, by order of the higher ups, ostensibly for "safety" purposes, or to keep from offending someone.
Absolutely amazing.
