So the story said he left not because he was gay, but because his lover was illegal.

But the real reason he left office and the country was because he had no ability to marry his same sex partner in Texas and make him a legal immigrant like hundreds of thousands of straight couples do every year in the USA.

Legal discrimination over marriage and employment towards gay USA citizens is nothing more than hateful bigotry which is mostly supported by religitards who can't think for themselves and have the nerve to apply their fantasy religions towards others.

Remember that the divorce rates are nearly 70-80% in many parts of the country among straights before anyone tries to claim how sacred straight marriages are supposed to be. It's real nice how a country full of hypocritical religious straight adulterers wants to presume to tell gays how to behave morally, huh?

It's simply amazing just how many supposedly straight males can find nowhere else on Topix to hang out and spam and troll other than on the gay forums.

What a bunch of closeted homophobes.

If you find you just can't stop yourself from obsessing on gay thoughts and posting in gay forums, maybe you need to reevaluate your so-called straight lifestyles, fellas.

And if you really had a straight sex life (or any sex life) in the first place, you obviously wouldn't be here posting and worrying about gays, now would you?

He took the only logical course of action available to him and resigned. He betrayed the trust that the people of the town placed in him.

Betrayed the trust how? I think helping someone stay in the town illegally would be betraying trust. He chose not to do that, and instead is going to try and help the person he loves become a citizen.
The people in San Angelo voted him to a fourth term with 89% of the vote. My guess is that if he came back someday with his partner, when a legal citizen, he could make a run at winning another election and serving that fourth term.
I think you're right.

First of all, what's "illicit" about this as the headline states? The story makes it quite clear they don't think the fact that his love was an illegal alien. No, it's that horror of horrors! GAY!
It's really sad that a town will lose someone who was obviously a very successful leader of their community because of ignorance and bias.
But, to hear people say how he has done them wrong. Really? He gave up his livelihood, his career, and probably his reputation with many folks so he WOULDN'T violate the voter's trust. Way more than a lot of recent Republicans in Washington I can think of.

I'm from that Texas Town everyone is talking about. Were not ashamed or turned upside down. Most of us were suprised and disappointed that we've lost a young man who had a promising political career. I am not pro-gay but that is the path he chose or he was given. Whatever. But that doesn't make me like him any less or trust his leadership to our small town any less. He thought he was doing the right thing but I do think his resigning was the right thing to do but done in the wrong way. I hope things work out for him and he can come back to this great little town and try again.

You'll have a fabulous time if you're longing to see what's on offer in the sales, especially if you want to buy yourself some new clothes or cosmetics.
