Obesity rates in Texas, El Paso to soar by 2040

Great...now I'm hungry...

What is this, psychic connection? Why are these people making predictions 31 years into the future? Maybe they can tell me who will win the Super Bowl that year too! I'll be in my 60s and hoping to make more retirement money!

Isn't it amazing how obesiy rates go up as the number of mexicans increases? I need another taco.

As usual we want the schools fix the problem. In this day and age, we as adults know what food is healthy and that we need exercise. It is plan and simple that parents are too lazy to cook healthy meals now a days. It is easier for them to cave into their kids and pick up McDonalds, pizza, etc. so they don't have to cook a decent meal. They make excuse they are tired after work so instead of getting the kids involved in evening activities they let them sit infront of the TV and computer. This problem will be an issue for a long time until parents are held accountable. They know what needs to be done, they are just to lazy to do it.

Its called projection and its a legitimate statistical tool. Its important to make assumptions about trends. How else do think taco bell would now how much taco meat to order for you and your amigos.

If Im reading this correctly, and I think I am, then there will be a slight increase in the number of fat whites, double the number of fat blacks and QUADRUPLE THE NUMBER OF FAT MEXICANS!...
Why are mexicans so stupid. Why are the obesity and diabetes rates so high. Why is the teen pregnancy rate so high, why are the domestic violence numbers so high? Why do we have to run ads telling them to walk and to not beat their children when they come home from work?

As a person with diabetes I was suggested to attend a nutrition program. There were about 30 ppl in all crowded in a small 15 x 15 room at the medical facility I go to. The nutrionist was quite knowledgeable and I remember that she was somewhat comical as well...especially when she recounted stories of being caught up in grocery stores for more time than usual reading labels. She gave warnings and gave advice. One man sitting in the back of the room yelled out "it just doesn't taste the same" in reference to substituted ingredients in mexican food.
Most of of laughed being more latinos in attendance than other ethnic groups, but....its true substituting ingredients in mexican food just takes the 'flavah' out! We were openly given a choice, "good eating habits coupled with exercise or death". I choose life and have been miserable ever since.:( But I'm alive!

I've often wondered the same thing. It seems that Mexicans have no self control. I was in an elevator at University Hospital with two other women, one of whom had been diagnosed with Diabetes (both were morbidly obese.) Apparently one of the women had been given some type of diet.
As she read the diet, she said "I'm not gonna eat this chit." I guess she will dig her grave with a fork.

How did you know they were Mexican crap for brians? Did you know the most obese people in the United States come from states that are mostly white? They again you would not know because based on your remark you appear to be uneducated and ignorant.

Um, if you are in El Paso, its probably a real good assumption that just about anybody you meet is mexican, especially fat chicks. You say that most obese people come from states with mostly whites. Hmm...y'all keep saying fat Mexicans but its funny, everytime I go to Mexico I RARELY see an obese person. The people there are in good shape, considering they don't go to a gym everyday. Now if you're referring to a MEXICAN AMERICAN then say it like that, because there is a different. I don't refer myself to a "Mexican" , I simply say "hispanic".

Reason why many "Hispanics" are go overweight is because they are lazy. The diet isn't that great to, as I would call it. Things like menudo, chorizo, and many other types of food are very high in fat and full of trans fat. These people don't have to walk to their job like people from Mexico do, and they make tons of fatty foods.

the reason you dont see any fat people in mexico is because they do not have any money to buy food. plus, we have states like nebraska and illinois that produce nothing but corn. we also have A LOT more flour than mexico. their diet consists strictly of beans, tortillas, nasty tap water, and rice!

Exactly, so why say Mexican if you're not referring to a citizen from Mexico? That was my point, the ones that are obese are the Mexican Americans.

I live in San Antonio and I know a Mexican when I see one. I agree that there are MANY, MANY morbidly obese Anglos just as there are MANY, MANY obese Mexicans. Those two nationalities seem to have cornered the market on blubber. HOWEVER, Mexicans have the highest rates of weight-related Diabetes and a large number would rather continue their gluttonous ways than to stick to a healthy diet.
