This property would make for an excellent replacement of the Tennessee Governor's Mansion and would better represent the people of the State of Tennessee than would the property and neighborhood were the current Tennessee Governor's Mansion is located...

The Governor holds a very important office and should live in a home reflecting the office. However, a 38 million dollar mansion, isn't that a little extravagant. Is the state in better financial shape than I thought? I guess with our government throwing around Trillions and Billions, 38 million doesn't sound like much. I, for one, do not want that house note and do not believe Tennessee can afford it either.

It would be fitting to have the Tennessee General Assembly to purchase the Alan Jackson mansion in time for Ron Ramsey being elected as the next governor of Tennessee! There is simply more land and interior room available out at the AJ mansion (and the AJ mansion is of relatively newer construction)...
I would suggest that the Tennessee General Assembly would first offer to pay the currently assessed tax appraisal value for the Alan Jackson mansion. The current governor's mansion could be easily converted into an emergency home/shelter/training facility for young pregnant women with no other place to go. |

Can Tennessee afford a purchase of this magnitude? I don't begrudge the governor a nice house but I am just wondering if we can afford that expense at this time?

1 I am thinking that most foward thinking, college educated Republicans will agree with me that the purchase of the Alan Jackson Sweetbier estate as the next State of Tennessee Governor's Mansion would, in the long run, be good investment for the State of Tennessee...this is a down market and the state could now get the best terms for this property - even if it meant taking out a bond issue to pay for Sweetbier. |

How would buying the mansion be a good investment for the state? That's not intended to be a smartbutt question. I am just wondering about it. I have learned a lot by asking questions and getting different views on issues that I'm not very informed on.
