S. Dakota to Revisit Restrictions on Abortion

“It's not a ban - it's stopping abortion as birth control.”

Voters in South Dakota this fall will once again be asked to consider a sweeping limit on abortion, the secretary of state announced on Friday. via New York Times

LLD, I'd like to discuss this further with you. Have two questions regarding this argument. See excerpt below.

"The new proposal is widely seen as a direct challenge to Roe v. Wade, the 1973 Supreme Court decision that made abortion legal.

South Dakota found itself in a similar spot two years ago, when a ballot question on a broad abortion ban turned national attention on the state’s 780,000 residents during an emotional and expensive battle that lasted months and ended with the proposed ban’s defeat."

The abortion numbers from 2006 show only .01% of SD's population had abortions in '06. It's a smaller number, even, when you consider the percentage of those out-of-staters.

So, why is it important to you to remove access to safe abortions in your state? And why the importance over such a small number?

I am curious of your current views, not wanting to argue, just want to understand why you've got so much invested in this ban proposal.
