MMA in South Carolina! We are three years behind times at least and watch the General Assembly will screw it up putting someone's brother-in-law in charge who has done nothing but golf since he played football at USC or Clemson back in the 60's

I support a measure to repeal the ban. MMA is a viable sport that is here to stay. It is the future of combat sports.

I think combat sports should all be banned. And we wonder why our kids grow up thinking that the only way to solve problems is to fight. Gambling is against the law because we don't want people taking food out of their children's mouths. Peoples addiction to sports events is another expensive example of having less money to care for ones family.

JUST WHAT DOES "MIXED MARTIAL ARTS" MEAN? WHAT IS MIXED? IS THIS A BOY-GIRL THING? A MIXED RACE THING? OR JUST MORE THAN ONE WAY TO KICK ASS?

Just the kind of narrow-minded crap that makes this an issue in the first place. I don't know what the stats are, but I'd be willing to bet, there, Cinderella, that more people make a good living (and live a respectable life) at combat sports who would otherwise be working menial jobs or not working at all than those who spend their hard-earned money on a UFC ticket instead of feeding their hungry baby. Good Lord, lady.

I have two sons that tain and fight in mixed martial arts. Both are college grads that have good jobs and futures. One has never been in a fight outside of a ring or cage. I worry more about them traveling out of state to fight than the possibility of any injury in the cage. I would rather they train MMA than play grandtheft auto.

MMA teaches honor, respect, self- discipline, self-esteem, confidence, mental acuity, physical fitness, hard work, passion, pride, anger management skills, self- defense....the list goes on and on. I think it is a great thing!! I plan on putting my 2 year old daughter in a program as soon as she is old enough.

Maybe we should disband the military too. They train in close combat as well as ranged combat. You know the Marines actually use some of the fighting techniques that MMA has perfected in their close combat training. So MMA has other uses. Fighting for sport has been around for a long time. Please just crawl back under your rock.

Whoo! Do not get in a rush. Their are other sports and martial arts for your daughter, maybe high school wrestling, judo, kickboxing, etc until she is at least 16. MMA is good stuff but for someone close to physical adulthood. If anyone is willing to train someone younger than 15 for MMA I suggest you take your child and run, not walk away from that facility.

I was really talking about Karate or something more along those lines. I *think* most places let kids as yound as 4 join. I wasn't planning on throwing her right in to MMA type stuff. And that is only i she likes it, I wouldn't ever force her into it. Just wanted to clarify. ;)

Sorry but some people do not seem to have as much commonsense as you do.

I would really like to see open mma tournaments in south carolina. It would be great to have regular tournaments that aspiring fighters could participate in.

for the people who think fighters are just barbarians let me enlighten you a little. i fight, i have a college degree in electronics engineering, and i have a good job. i fight to because i love the sport. the money isn't even that great in the smaller shows so you have to love the sport to do it. i haven't been able to fight in SC at all. i have to drive to other states just to fight because the laws are so far behind. as far as the athletes, they are generally more conditioned than any other athlete. but closed minded people don't see it. before anyone spouts off with things they know nothing about they need to do some research and talk to people who are actually around it.

I would love to see it come to SC. The Army is teaching certain MMA skills to soldiers as well as the Marine Corps is teaching marines. There are rules that have been inacted e.g. no eye gouging, no finger bending etc. The worse thing that i can recall that happened since i believe New Jersey put these rules in effect and just about everywhere has adopted the same rules is an arm got broken. Its a sport like boxing with a twist, its not find the first person you dont like and kill him like some people portray it as.
