Then when they are 18, they do what? Just get "thrown out" of foster care? Then what are they expected to do?
the state does not just throw them out, they will help these kids go to college if they want to go. The state helps pay for a state school for foster kid, also kids who have been in foster care adoptions get this as well. The state does do many things to help these kids that the public does not see, all you hear is the bad side and the tragic stories. Of course no one really wants to hear the good DHS does for kids, it is the bad stories that sell now a days.

Right, I understand that. When they are 18 though, where do they go from there as far as housing? they put them somewhere?

I would love to see the information that details the services foster children are given upon release from the State's custody.

Are there any docs or websites available with the info?

There was just a great article in Reader's Digest regarding the life of a man that traveled through the foster care system, and he has written a book called Hope's Boy. It didn't paint such a rosy picture of the system. It seems like an honest account of what truly goes on.

A child can stay in the foster home, if the foster parents agree as long as they are on school, if they go out of town for school, then they live in the dorms. Most foster parents that have children for a long time help these kids, they love them and treat them just like their own kids. My mom still has kids(well all grown now) that she talks to and helps out with money and such from time to time when they need it. The state does have options for most foster kids in the system, they just have to choose to use it.

The public has the misconception that the DHS moves these from one home to another for no good reason. This is not true. We have three snmall children that were in numerous homes before being placed with us. In nine months they were in 7 different homes. They have been with us for two years now. Many people sign up to do fostering not realizeing how involved it is. It is extremely time consuming. And the kids have a lot of emotional problems. Our kids had not bonded, causing numerous behaviours. The other foster homes could not deal with the problems. Fostering is much more involved than being a parent.

When I was in second grade my sister and brother and I were put in a foster home.. We don't know why.I am now 51. So its been along time ago. We were abused very much. My sister was made to sit all day if she didn't eat her food, and she was put in the basement and made to go to the bath room there.. my brother was molested by the families sons. I was abused physically for taking up for my family. I remember eating my sisters food alot so she wouldn't get into trouble.. and taking up for my brother. But you know no one came to our rescue. Still to this day we have problems over this and we still do not know why we were put there.. We have tried to find out but they say there is no record of it.. Most of the time i believe its better for the kids to be with the parents . I know our lives would of been different had we been with our parents instead of the foster ones..

once again Ill say my peace 40 yrs ago we(10 siblings) were taken away from uour parents and adopted out all to sepperet homes not to know one another. but not once did DHS check the adopted homes after a child was adopted into it; and more than once I've heard of some kind of abuse; when I told about the things that were going on I was the one to be punished. I got locked up for 1.5 yrs.'cause the one doing it did not wont to take a test to say yes or no!! and you say you look out for the kids. I say you in it for the pay!!!! at least I'm on my way to met more of my family today and I thank GOD for not letting me succeed in killing myself

DHS says they have no authority to take kids? I SAY DIFFERENTLY!!!!!!!!!! They do take kids. They took my kids a long time ago. For no good reason and then they get your hopes built up and then they tell you later on you will loose your kids based on you had no mom and dad so therefore you dont know how to raise kids. Thats crazy talk. They take kids because they want money for them. They get money for each kid they take. For the DHS workers that destroyed my family, GOD HELP THEM LIVE IN PEACE FOR WHAT THEY DID!!!!!!!!!! They claim they dont take kids, thats funny! They took mine!
You have got to be the MOST ignorant person on this planet. Really....DHS workers get money for the kids they take? You have got to be a JOKE! Anyone that believes something like that does not deserve to have their children. Absolute ignorance is all I can say. Get off the drugs, lady.

She didn't say the "workers" got money for the kids they take. DHS gets money for each child that is in the system. Upwards of $4k per month per child.

Telling someone to get off drugs, and calling them crazy doesn't change the fact that they are right. DHS does get money for taking children whether you care to believe it or not.

Google Social Security Title IV-E foster care funding. You can see for yourself. Then perhaps you'd care to apologize to Kim.

My wife and i cared for our granchildren while they where in DHS custody... We did this through kinship care... one of the children was on SSI.. not only did we not recieve consideration for difficulty of care but DHS took one third of his SSI check... we were out thousands of dollars for the special needs of these children... we didn't mind that as much as when we asked about reimbursement DHS laughed at us and then cut the reimbursement even moore !!!! THIS SYSTEM IS BROKEN !!!!!!! IT was not the case workers we had problems with, but the management !!!! The time we were able to spend with our grandchildren was great !!!! But the experience with dhs was terrible....

To make a long story short, my ex was abusive. He not only mentally abused me to the point I was too afraid to stand up to him and afraid to leave. I always had a fear he would find me.
Well to find out much later he sexually abused my daughter. I knew this was true and happened.
But I was to scared to go against him, DHS believed I was standing by him. I was trying to survive. During the process with DHS, not one time did they ever look to help me. They were looking for a reason to take my children and they did.
I was sent through 3 psychological exams. Not one of them said to terminate my rights. I went through many counseling sessions. Only one therapist said he thought it was best to terminate, then changed his mind to keep working with us for awhile longer. But really he did not believe me I did not know this was happening.
I put up a good fight to have my children back home. But from the start the DHS workers had no intentions of me having my children back home.
I have had people deliberately sabotage my case. It is in my court papers.
I had completed everything they asked me to, never once missed a counseling session, never once missed a visit with my children. In court it was stated this was the best they had ever seen.
Out of all the therapists and psychologists they sided with the one person who had his mind made up from the start.
What is really sad and I really have to believe with the whole process of not only going through the system as I have. There must be an incentive for these workers or they would have not fought me as hard as they have.
I have to wait for my children to come back home when they are of age. My children they took away are not babies, they are old enough to say they want to be home. They are old enough to know what they want. They are afraid to say they are being mentally abused where they are now living.

all I can think to say is god bless you all for speaking out. My children were taken from me and I couldn't find anyone who had gone through or was going through the same thing. It is the most frightening thing to first hand witness the fact that our children can be kidnapped with no signs of abuse and the things they are subjected to(like forced physicals while they kick and scream even though there were no suspicions of sexual abuse) are monstrous. What do u tell ur five yr old daughter when she asks u why? God bless u all for speaking up and I have one thing important to say this is supposed to be a government for the people by the people... I say we stand up for children whether they are abused in the home or by these strangers who claim to be protecting them... we need to unite and reclaim are rights.

I have 2 daughters, 13 & 9. When my oldest was 14 months old my ex-husband accused me of neglect. This being after he tried to kill me & I left him. The CASEWORKER came in & checked her out. She left, saying everything was fine. About 30 minutes later she showed back up with the cops & physically took her out of my arms. She told me I was to young to be a mother, so they were going to take her off my hands. They called my grandmother as a "character witness." She asked them if they had taken her into custody, they LIED & told her NO. Everytime I went to court they added more things for me to do. After 2 1/2 yrs I was able to hire a lawyer & get rid of the public defender. The first time she walked into court, she found that someone had already filed adoption papers on MY daughter. To finish up, that court date she got me weekend visitation. 2 months later I went back to court for a review. That was the last one, my daughter went home with me.
So, needless to say, I DON'T BELIEVE THEM!! Yes, I believe they are overworked & under paid. But that is no excuse to treat another humans life a living hell. I was 16 @ the time. Yes, I was young. But I had chose to keep her & raise her. My ex-husband had held a knife to my throat, with the telephone cord wrapped around my neck. As soon as he went to sleep I left. I went to the cops & they said there was not anything they could do because it had been over 4 hrs since the incident. So, I leave to protect her & myself. Instead I lose her & spent 3 yrs trying to bring her home.
Please forgive me, but I have NO faith in our system at all!!!
I agree with you I also do not trust them they lie to get whatever they want. They say they are under paid then they shouldn't work for a government that gets paid to steal children from their homes just so they can make money from the adoptions. They are responsible for my sons death and now they have my only grandchild just because they can. These people are wicked, cruel and heartless. They don't really care about the children like they say they do. They just want to pad their wallets. You are right not to trust them keep these people as far from your children as possible.

Howard Hendrick, head of the Oklahoma DHS state agency, is under investigation for child neglect. His 13-year-old son was injured while they were burning brush at a lake house earlier this month.
According to an article on the Tulsa World website, an anonymous caller complained that the director didn’t act quickly enough to get medical help for his child.(search for this story on google.com )

What kind of monster says that someone should have their children taken away because they said something you didn't like... you sound like a dhs worker or maybe you have no children and can not understand the kind of torture it is to have your child/children ripped away never knowing if they are ok or if you'll ever see them again... perhaps you are the one who requires such treatment so that you might never wish such a thing on another human being. Being a case worker for Child Welfare is a dangerous job to have. I have heard case workers state that the parent(s) have threatened their lives if they are ever seen again. Something, anything, could happen to the case workers at anytime, including when they are not on the clock, being out with their own families and then being recognized by a client. The pay does suck, the hours are long. I have posted before that other factors determine if and when the child (ren) are removed from the home. The case workers do not just leave the office thinking, "I'm going to this client's house and take the kids today.". There is an investigation first.
I agree your job is dangerous but then that is the price you people pay for stealing children just so you can make a profit on giving them up for adoption. As far as saying that they don't leave the office thinking I am going to take someones kids today. You are so wrong some of them do as in the case with my now 3 month old grandson. You people went after him from the time he was born I was able to stop you a few times so you waited until I was at work. You went to my house and stole him right out of my daughters arms. Now you have him and we will never get him back because, you people will just make up lie after lie to keep him. I hope all of you people choke to death on the money that you make on my grandsons adoption.

I know that none of this is going to help my situation but I feel like I have to do something. DHS Department Of Human Stealing is responsible for my son's death. Now my daughter who just gave birth 3 months ago has had her child stolen by DHS. They have tried to take him since he was born. As long as I was here they couldn't take him. So they waited for me to go to work and then they came to my house and chased my daughter through the house and stole him right out of her arms. The worker vowed one day she would get him and now she has him and we will never get him back. I hope all of you people choke on the money that you make from my grandsons forced adoption. I understand when you people have to take children that are abused or, neglected or, the parents are on drugs. But to take children just because you can when there is nothing like that going on that is just wrong. I hope God has mercy on your souls because I never will.

You really need to do some more research before you make comments like that. DHS gets gets at least 4,000 to 30,000 per child they can adopt out depending on the child, age, etc. You should really do the research before you make yourself look more ignorant than Kim as you say. Oops too late you already did. Just so you know DHS is responsible for my son's death and they have stolen my only grandchild so I know what I am talking about and have documents to prove it.
