I support this idea but this should not be given to every individual. The individuals that receive these funds should be listed through DMV. We have individuals driving without actually having the legal credintials such as lincense, registration, inspection & insurance.
Even so, they are still buying gas. My question is, the state is in debt already, so how do they propose to fund this little plan? Basic fiscal responsibility would tell you that if you do not have any $$, don't loan it out to people. Maybe Spitzer's call girl could give us a refund. She wasn't the only one being screwed!

Is the rebate for all New Yorkers or only those who drive? Because of my husband's business, he drives about 25,000 miles a year, should the person who does not have a license, and there are many in NYC, be given $100.00?
Maybe it will work

I totally agree with you and why should people who don't own cars receive this if it is a GAS rebate check.

Because everyone is effected by the high price of fuel. Walk to the store for a few things, and pay higher prices for them because they were delivered to the store in a truck which runs on $4.00 a gallon diesel fuel. The shoes you wear on your walk to the store are made from petroleum based products, so their price goes up. Use your heads, people. The government needs to take a stand with the oil companies, not just try to appease the population.

I think a couple of people are looking at this rebate check the wrong way when they say that it will only cover a couple gallons of gas. This check isn't to purchase free gas, it is to refund us the cost of state tax on gas. So if you figure about $0.33 NY tax on every gallon of gas, that $100 will cover the tax costs of about 300 gallons of gas. Of course, whether this is enough based on the miles each of us drive is another story.

This law would give the same $100 to the guy who owns a car but walks or takes a bus to work and they guy that has to drive to work because there is no option. The idea was to give a break because of gas prices.

Sounds good to me, hopefully it will be passed in the next few weeks. It doesn't cover all the money we have spent over the last year, but it will be a help even if it is our money they are giving back to us.

Still, where is the money going to come from? The state is in SERIOUS DEBT! Stop the bleeding. It needs a tourniquet, not a band-aid.
