Hey dumb one, why don't you pick me up for work? I only live in the middle of nowhere. We'll use your car to haul around my work gear. I clean septic tanks for a living.

I love all of the speculation regarding the $4 gallon.. It is almost as if we WANT it.. we have been hearing about it for months now and are expecting it to come, like Christmas.. and if it doesn't - I, honestly, think that some people will be disappointed.

By means of the media, we are being prepared for this new horizon in gas prices brought about by many factors (greed, crappy economy, low $ value, greedy towelheads, oil execs, etc..) So when it comes, we can all say - here it is, finally. WHEW! onto $5 now... milestone accomplished

gas is not only $8 a gallon in europe but its also 95 octane which is higher octane rating than we can get here in US (93 octane is premium here). So don't forget about that. Also Europe cities were built way before there were automobiles, so it's easier to get around because the urban planners of that time considered people walking from place to place.
In Europe, they don't drive SUVs like we do. Alot of small cars on the narrow streets but they all get great gas mileage. Gas is also that high because it is heavily taxed in many parts of Europe.

I see there are still some idiots on here that let everyone know it could be alot worse...TRANSLATION:" I am a jerk and will continue to accept the price hikes because it's not as bad as it is in other countries." WHO CARES what the price of gas is in Europe you morons? WE LIVE HERE, and we don't WANT gas at $8.00 a gallon! If they want to pay that much over there, LET THEM! I don't want it here and neither should the rest of you!

I think everyone should buy motorcycles for the summer months, that way driving them would be way safer, because there wouldn’t be big heavy cars to pull out in front of you and tailgate you seeing if they can hit you. Although carrying work equipment, and hauling stuff around might be a problem :-/ . But 50 miles a gallon sounds pretty sweet right now.

That is a good idea, but not feasible for everbody. But at least it's an idea. All the whining and b****ing that is going on you would think we are doomed. So come people, let's stop complaining and start thinking of some solutions. We have the intelligence and drive, if to not fix things, but at least make them a little more tolerable!

Makes you wonder what the price of gas would be now if GW wasn't able to steal the 2000 election and Gore were in office...
Would it be lower? Higher?

As soon as Bush was elected I knew it was going to be war for oil automatically.

If you read the story....yeah, I know I'm asking alot here but stay with me.....you'll see it says over $4 on PREMIUM gasoline. Read a little better and you won't waste everyone's time.

I just watched the news and the combined taxes on a gallon of gas in Western New York are over $2.00/gallon...

therefore...

Since the Senecas and Tuscaroras don't pay gas tax, they are GOUGING US beyond words! It's only about 20 cents cheaper on the rez. Why would anybody drive 15 minutes out of their way to save $3.00 on a tank of gas??

Gas prices are not absurd. The urban development and city planning is absurd. Did you know that the city planners were paid off by the automotive industry in the 1950s to make it so that public transportation would not be feasible and that you'd need a vehicle to travel into cities?
Now what are we going to do?
Personally I'm happy. Hopefully by the end of the summer there will be no more SUVs on the road. There will only be normal sized vehicles that get 35+ miles/gallon....i can't wait
Do you not realize... the problem is not the size or mpg of the car you drive, its the fact that almost everything in our "society" depends in some way on petroleum AND the fact that big industry DOES NOT AND WILL NOT PURSUE any viable alternatives.
