Just proves Big Brother Oppressive Gov'ts cannot do what incentives to the private sector can do. Imagine having UNLIMITED power, resources, and 60% approval ratings, and you 'save' (a joke) 1500 jobs...Tax decrease, incentives, would have kept most jobs, and created 1,000's, perhaps KEEPING some homegrown talent in Hawaii. Stimulus=farce.

More political shibai by the democrats esp. the Obama administration as there are already controversy that many of these job numbers are inflated and, yet, the unemployment index is still going up in Hawaii and esp nationwide.
Stimulus monies have benefitted the pockets of people administering it. This is all a joke.....a big Democratic joke....a big Obama joke!!!

The following is taken verbatim from DBEDT's latest QUARTERLY STATISTICAL & ECONOMIC REPORT,Executive Summary, 3rd Quarter 2009:

"Civilian labor force in Hawaii decreased in the
second quarter of 2009 to 649,050, a decrease of 7,650 people or 1.2 percent from the second quarter of 2008. However, the civilian employment decreased 31,550 people or 5.0 percent from the same quarter in 2008. As a result, the average number of civilian unemployed for the quarter jumped to 48,050, 99.0 percent higher than the
year before. This pushed the unemployment rate up to 7.4 percent in the second quarter of 2009, compared with 3.6 percent a year earlier. YTD in 2009, the unemployment rate averaged 7.0 percent, 3.7 percentage points higher than that of 2008."

I just thought I would give readers of this "puff piece" article by the Star Bulletin a little perspective and allow them to come to their own conclusions.

Accordind to a report released by a member of the House Ways and Means Committee, 49 states plus the District of Columbia have lost jobs since the stimulus bill was passed. Only North Dakota has generated increased employment...

http://www.republicans.waysandmeans.house.gov...

This is a microcosm of the Obama administration. He claimed that the stimulus would keep unemployment below 8%. Today it stands at 9.8%. Further, most economists expect the rate to rise to 10% and remain there... a fact that the White House not only doesn't dispute but is even confirming.

In 10 months this administration has tripled the federal deficit. It has instituted programs to buy your house, pay for your car, bail out your bank, and now take over your medical insurance. All this while the dollar has shrunk 16% under this administration. If Bin Laden himself had planned an assault on the American economy he couldn't do a better job than this.

Obamas claim to have saved jobs in light of the facts is tantamount to AGW alarmists claiming that the Earth is getting colder because it's getting warmer. Where do these people come from?

How can we teach our young ones to "trust" anything if this is the kind of "responsible" reporting they get? Jobs saved? What a laugh. Jobs created? From what? So sad America.

So, it only cost us taxpayers some $600,000 for each job created or saved. What a deal! Give me $600,000 and you can have my job to put it politely.

It's the same old union and state jobs.

Did any money come in for the private sector?

The money is for the same old people that caused all the problems in the first place.

The reason I stopped subscribing to the Star Bulletin and Honolulu advertiser is that they are so far left. Also, they don`t do any investigating reporting. I am not a republican (like so many democrats write, when they don`t agree with your blog). I am a proud independent that believes the Country needs real change. The United States is being led down the wrong path by our far left leaders and newspapers (that slant the news to propagate their belief !!!!

Chicago style politics. Quid Pro Quo. The teachers union is a wholly owned subsidiary of the Democratic Party.
