IT'S ABOUT THE FAMILIES ARE GIVING A BREAK. THE FAMILIES CAN NOT AFFORD THIS EXPENSE. AND WHY SHOULD MONEY BE MADE OFF THE FAMILIES ANYHOW. THEY DID NOTHING WRONG. THE WHOLE CONCEPT WAS AND IS GREED.

I understand, it is to pay for the system, not to make money off them. However, we, the taxpayers would have to pay the bill if Embarq did not do it. |

If those who commit crimes and are jailed aren't concerned with this cost, then why should I be?

Why are criminals even given phone privileges? Part of this country's crime problem is the fact we treat criminals like hotel guests.

They have families you insensitive big jerk |

And they are supposed to be the worst of society...the families could not change these people from the course their life were taking so why do you think costant contact by phone will make changing their life in prison effective? Phone privilage should be just that...not a right. |

For some people talking to their loved ones who are incarcerated is a wonderful chance for us to keep relationships alive.
Criminals are in prison to pay for the crimes that they committed, the families shouldn't have to suffer because of their mistakes. Why punish them??? Some people want to keep their families intact and they will do anything to keep that alive. Think about those that are married to those people, they make vows to stick together for better or for worse...regardless of their crimes. We all should see that its in the VOWS that we speak when we marry. So if you think its wrong for a convict to have those "privs" then maybe you should take a look into something else like I don't know...FORGIVENESS!!! They are already paying with their lives in prison, don't punish everyone else. |

Speaking to the family members everyday is not a right, and if it is causing financial stress it is certainly harmful to the relationship. I am not without sympathy, but what is the harm on waiting for phone calls on weekends as an earned reward for doing 'good' time? That would make it twice as special and less expensive. |
