Customer Service is non-existent! ADA has been around long enough now that EVERYONE who owns or manages a business should know about it! I can't believe people are so inconsiderate these days! The owner/manager should be held accountable for their employees to know and act accordingly! To the disabled, I want to apologize for those morons who fail to provide you with the services you need. There is no excuse for this!

People need to understand that during the day, there is usually only one person in a convenient store. At night there are two because that is required by law.

A convenient store attendant cannot leave their store unattended to go outside and gas someones car up. That creates a liability in itself. As such, the ADA requirement is null and void in a situation such as this per the ADA. So there is no wrong doing on any stations part if there is only one attendant. As stated before, most convenient store locations on Albuquerque are staffed with only ONE person during the day and TWO at night.

It is unfortunate that you are disabled, but if you are aware of a certain station that will assist you, why not frequent that station?

The city provides transportation for disabled individuals. This would save you both a car payment, insurance payment and gas costs.

If only one person on the job is s problem, they should have two on the job and abide by the law. Extend common courtesy to the disabled and the elderly.

That is not a cost effective solution. There is no need to have more than on represetative at a store at a time. People need to get over thinking that companies need to bend over backwards just because they think so.

It is NOT required by any law for a company to add staff just to service eldery or disabled people. The male individual in the story was getting out of the car with the reporter and going into the store. So if he can get out of the car and do this, why cant he pump his own gas?

Everyone has their opinion, but that doesnt change the laws governing companies. If you are so disabled that you cannot function enough to pump gas, maybe you shouldnt be driving.

There was absolutely no wrong doing on the companies part regarding the ADA. As such, there is no liability on any of these stations involved. Also there is no requirement for these companies to do anything than what they are doing right now.

So in essence, these people threw a baby fit to KOBTV and not one thing will change.

Maybe you guys should go volunteer your time and stand by a gas station waiting for disabled people so you can fill their cars up for them.

well I guess from what the gas company "Officials" are saying now it that I am going to have to tote a 12 lb yellow page directory around with me now so that I can make the stores or gas stations aware that I am coming in for fuel?

Did you not read this: "Under the Americans with Disabilities Act, gas stations must “provide refueling assistance upon the request of an individual with a disability.”"
God have mercy on you for being so cruel. I hope you, your children and your family never become disabled...but I have to tell you...you seem to be asking for it to happen.

Next we will see a story where a disabled person is being mistreated because when he calls the gas station and orders them to deliver gas to his address because he cant pump his own gas they wont do it. People need to stop living in a "woe is me" world.

Yeah I did read that. However, with KOBTV and its biased approach to the story they FAILED to mention that there is a clause in the "American Disabilities Act" that states if there is only one person working in the store, they are NOT required to provide full service. They only quote the portions of the law that benefit their story. There is no cruelty involved. This is straight from the horses mouth. If disabled people dont like the law, they need to take that up with the legislature and not the gas companies.

I forgot to mention that I have disabled individuals in my near family. They have better stuff to worry about than having someone pump gas for them.

Sounds like we have room for some full service only gas stations. I came from Oregon and they just tack on a nickel or so to every gallon of everyones gas and only the attendant can pump it.

yes Heston, maybe he could just get up out of the wheelchair he cruises around in just for shits and giggles and swipe the card and push the little buttons at the top of the pump.

acutally if you watch the story... they do include the part of the ADA that says the law doesn't apply to gas stations if only one person's working. have a heart for the disabled people!!

This appears to be another sign of the times. Anyone with any manners or unselfish thoughts should know that this is not just a requirement, but more importantly it is a basic element of customer service. Employees in service industries seem to know nothing about trying to provide customers with good service. Shame on these companies who don't care about return business and don't demand courtesy from their employees.
