Spot-on commentary. Democrats don't give a whit about working folks -- they say they do, and then institute policies that destroy our economy and jobs. And, clever little foxes they are, and with the help of a complicit media that has become little more than a propaganda tool of the Left, they convince gullible voters that they, Democrats, are the only ones with solutions for the problems they have created!

Amen. Wealth is created in the private sector. Government "jobs" are paid for by taxpayers in the private sector. We must reduce the size of government at nearly every level and allow New Mexicans to keep their money and spend it as they see fit. That is the ultimate solution to our economic challenge.

"LOS ALAMOS, New Mexico, August 28, 2009—Six small businesses are receiving subcontracts totaling up to $200 million for providing architectural and engineering services to Los Alamos National Laboratory. The small businesses receiving the subcontracts from Los Alamos National Security, LLC are Lopez Engineering, Inc.; Merrick & Company; Mosaic-STC, A Joint Venture; Professional Project Service, Inc.; Vigil Enterprises, Inc.; and Weidlinger-Navarro Northern New Mexico Joint Venture. These six small businesses represent a total of 41 firms, both large and small, that teamed to compete for architecture and engineering contract work. Three of the businesses are located in Northern New Mexico while the other three have strong roots in the region through their teaming arrangements, explained Kathryn Smith of the Laboratory’s Acquisition Services Management Division". Why is this a bad thing? |

It is an illusion. We all fall for it. What you do not see is the theft of the $ 200 million from all of the private sector businesses that are paying for this. The money to pay for government comes from somewhere. These "government contracts" are merely government in another form. If these government endeavors create an atmosphere for private enterprise to create additional wealth, then it has merit. The problem is that many of these projects, bridges to nowhere, or rehabilitating bridges, do not create greater efficiency and private sector job creation. For each "engineering job" at the tit of government, a true private sector job is lost. The challenge for New Mexico is our near complete dependence upon the Federal government to fund our economy. How about $ 200 million in tax credits for these businesses instead of granting them $ 200 million of our money? I admit it is hard to see the problem "bad thing". Much better to hear about a private business willing to invest $ 200 million of their own money in New Mexico. Lets pray for that.
