Most of the black ppl in this state would not be here if not for the Air Force or school. Have you ever thought how awkward it would be to go to the mall and be the only white person there? It gets old when you have can count the number of people like you on one hand when you go to Bismarck. I don' think it is that bad for black people up here. The natives are the black people of the north. Chew on that.

I am very surprised to read the negative comments regarding the race that the NAACP was created for, but of course I notice that such comments come from people outside of our wonderful state of ND (God's country). I've befriended several persons of color in my lifetime and have known them all to be very courteous, non-judgemental individuals. Let's not judge someone because of their skin color, heritage, religion, etc.

Why not give them a call or stop by one of their offices? Even if they couldn't help you, they would probably be much more polite to you than the average NAAWP representative would be to me. The National Association for the Advancement of Colored People says it registered an estimated 200 or more inmates last week. The NAACP says the effort is the first time there's been a systemwide initiative to register inmates across an entire state. Maine is one of two states that allows felons to vote while in prison. Vermont is the other. Rachel Talbot Ross, president of the NAACP chapter in Portland, says the organization will lead another registration drive next summer at county jails, as well as state prisons. Ross says the recruitment drive isn't about furthering a political agenda. The NAACP needs to be here. The level of prejudice here in good old ND is akin to the Deep South in the 1960s. In my family, we have "mixed race" marriage and "mixed race" children. I would not want them to visit here in ND because of the flagrant intolerance of most of the individuals here. Not since I was a young girl have I seen such bigotry and intolerance. The use of the "n" word here is astronomical. So, for my vote, bring on the NAACP. If ND is such a great place, they should be bored. Unfortunately, from what I've seen, heard, and experienced first hand, the NAACP is going to be really busy.

Just recently at Grand Forks Air Force Base, after almost a year long Commander’s Directed Investigation (CDI), Pastor Ronald Cooper was found guilty of time card abuse (fraud)! He was doing weddings, funerals, counseling etc. both on and off base in his capacity as a paid pastor and making his time sheets marked as present at work. This was all being done with the consent of his squadron commander (LtCol Daniel Liggins) who just happened to be a devout follower and member of Pastor Ronald Cooper’s church, The New Beginnings Christian Center. When the time sheet fraud was brought to the attention of LtCol Daniel Liggins, not only did he not stop it, he and Pastor Ronald Cooper fired the 2 people responsible for timekeeping and gave the job to someone outside of the squadron. This person just happened to be the secretary of the group commander and also the secretary of LtCol Liggins and Pastor Ronald Cooper’s church. At this same time Mrs. Cooper, Pastor Cooper’s wife, was the time sheet auditor for all of Grand Forks Air Force Base. I see red flags going up, am I alone?
I would like to add that I am not judging Pastor Ronald Cooper, that’s the job of the United States Air Force and apparently they have done so, the result being that Mr. Cooper was forced to pay back a small portion of what he had stolen. I don’t agree with this decision as it sets a policy of an acceptable level of theft of taxpayer money at Grand Forks Air Force Base.
Would Grand Forks Air Force Base be willing to fund my church? We too are struggling in this economy as much as Pastor Cooper and The New Beginnings Christian Center. Do they have the authority to support one church and one Pastor over another? Apparently so.
Unless it has been recently changed one of the Ten Commandments states “thou shalt not steal”. Because Pastor Ronald Cooper has been found guilty of theft by the Grand Forks Air Force Base, I can’t see how anyone can take him seriously as a Pastor or a leader in the NAACP. He will never represent me or any member of my family as it would appear that he lacks any credibility as a Christian or a man of morals. Thank you for sharing your story. Perhaps Pastor Cooper could start up an ACORN chapter up there as well?

SD and ND are notoriously racist toward Native people; I have heard that for years. There is a nationwide pattern of such bigotry, while most whites sit unknowing, thinking things are great... in fact there are many incidents in many states of whites murdering Natives with impunity and other crimes. For most groups, violent crime is mostly from within the group (black on black, white on white), but for Natives most of it comes from whites. Let the NAACP shine the light on all of this.

Not to get too personal, but I'd be very interested in knowing how old you were the first time you met a Black college graduate. For some reason the whole Ronald Cooper issue reminds me of Major Nidal Malik Hasan. The Air Force is, if nothing, politically correct - heaven forbid we should accuse the Right Reverend Ronald Cooper of fraud because he is the president of (the non-existent) NAACP of North Dakota and a preacher (internet) to boot of doing anything. He might pull the "all mighty" race card and make the management's career uncomfortable. When are these bureaucrats going to just man-up and take care of the problems?
