I think this is a great development. I was against the banning of horse slaughter in North Dakota from the beginning. Think of all the jobs that were lost when this happened. It's a very difficult job to work in a slaughterhouse, come on, could you do it? Didn't think so.
Now, anyone who has either horses, or cattle, or any other kind of livestock would have to be utterly stupid to not realize that horses are being sold for only $5 at sales. How sad is that? These animals have price tags, and for one to be dropped by at least $195 because people feel bad that a sick horse is going to have to be put down. This also means that those who run sale barns are loosing money. I work at one, and it's just pathetic. Sure, horses were meant as "companion animals" but really what percentage of horses are? The only real companionship left between man and horse is when the man works the horse to damn near torture to teach it to race. Or harm the horse by putting dyes in is mane, or painfully file their hoofs to the skin for show horses. Not to mention the difficult training that could lead to the poor horses to death when competing the horse. If someone isnt using the horses for breeding, their using them as a "companion" during rodeos and the racetracks. Sure I do know people who have horses for fun, and almost as pets, but they sure as heck dont ever have more than three. Yes, I said three, not three hundred, three period. But if we're gonna ban horse slaughter, we might as well ban Pig slaughter, or even cattle slaughter. Have Vegan beliefs pushed onto those of us who enjoy the weekly hamburger, or having a good ham during the holidays. Oh, and lets put KFC out of business and ban poultry slaughter. Oh, does that seem to be too much? Well, their are people who own a single cow, or a pig, or a chicken, and have them as pets. Put they're not considered "companion animals". Why not? These animals make awesome pets! No more exotic as a person buying a tiger cub off of e-bay. So, why is it not illegal to buy these animals? Considered untame? Yes, people, keeping the horse slaughterhouses is about money. Look at our dying economy. Shouldn't we be trying everything we can to help it? HJelp those branve men and women who have insane guts for working in the slaughterhouses their jobs back. Let the price of a horse go up over 80 times what they're selling for now. Oh, and one last note, do you own a horse? Do you know what it's like to have one of your best horses turn on you? Do you not understand how much more humane it is to have a professional put your horse down properly, than having to try and do it yourself? I wouldn't shoot my own horse. I wouldn't want to bury the poor thing in my yard. I wouldn't be able to afford the $2,000 to put it down. I would feel much better knowing that in the horses death, it would be helping people keep their jobs. Oh, and if I were to bury the poor guy in my yard, what if he had a disease I didn't know about? What if that disease got caputred in the ground water, and went to the lake that's not even 3 miles away from my house? We'd have an epidemic in that lake. Please, bring back horse slaughter, not only for our economy, but for our environment, and for the horses themselves. |
