"Gonzalez said the latest numbers should underscore the need for policymakers and politicians to pay attention to the Hispanic population." I think it's already something we all pay attention to.. unfortunately it has to be handled at the small town level, because the state and federal governments are caught in the middle of the amnesty fights and groups that speak out for the rights of those who entered the US illegally. Some small town governments now do random inspections of multi-family homes, to make sure that 20 people don't live in a 2 bedroom house. Are these types of homes being surveyed by the census? Probably not. We all know that there is an immigration 'problem' in the US, but people are afraid to speak out about it. If you don't see this, then you're probably not reading this, and are still awaiting an electrical connection to the side of your house. It's interesting that states like Arizona, Massachusetts and Rhode Island have actually passed laws that combat illegal immigration in ways, using non-standard methods. i.e. if you make a moving violation while driving a vehicle, are stopped and found to have entered the US illegally (i.e. no passport or proof of US Citizenship), you are deported. On the East Coast, the illegal hispanic population has brought with it the gang communities of their home countries. I wouldn't say that there is a direct percentile mapping between immigration and crime, but I would concur that an increase in crime can be attributed to the large influx of hispanics who have entered the United States illegally.

Sorry to say, but it's true. A lot of them are here illegally. Nothing wrong with those who were born and raised here and live their lives like the rest of us. Illegals need to be sent back.

well im guess im going to be "ignorant" "racist" and say that this is a "problem"!
after all the la raza "the race" .org wthat have no problem at all being a racist organization with a racist agenda gets to support ILLEGAL imigration to the extent that they even think that the US taxpayer should even foot the bill for it.
enough is enough with the word twisting and political posturing.
its ILLEGAL and against the LAW, its a CRIME.
i dont get to pick and choose which laws i want to obey and which ones i dont.
why should an illegal immigrant?
and before the "your a hatemongerringracist" group chimes in, keep in mind im talking "illegal" immigration.
and lets face it.
80% of it is.
it needs to be stopped, and it needs to be stopped NOW.

and check the job listings...bilingual a plus, bilingual a plus .. in the US you have to speak Spanish to get a job now...

And how much is spent on medical for someone that is not a citizen...

I want them them to come here the same way my mom and grand parents did, legaly and learn English. It can be done.

Illegals can't vote. The emphasis of the article is the representation of Hispanics and Latinos in govt.
Many whom I come in contact with can't speak English and have been here several years. If you can't speak it or read it, how can you vote? If you're not intelligent enought to learn the language, what makes you think you can make an intelligent choice in the voting booth? You'll just vote for whichever candidate is Hispanic regardless of who or what he/she is.
Just another case of trying to be first in line for the handouts. More representation more govt handouts.

Did any of you bother to read the article? It said that the Hispanic population is 45.5 million. We know that about 12 million of them are illegal, that means that 25% of the Hispanic population is here illegaly; not half or 75%.

Please focus on the problem. Why are people moving to America and risking their lives to do so? I would strongly doubt most of you have the physical or emotional stamina to endure the process many of these illegal immigrants have gone through just to be here. There is a reason and instead of focusing on how bad they are or what they have done to our community, let's focus on who's at fault: the employers who hire them and people who make (or ignore existing) policies that allow them to stay.
If there weren't jobs for them the majority would not take the risk. The idea that they move here just to have babies or cause trouble is absurd. They are here for a reason. And to say "we don't want them here" is just as absurd.
"Vermin in the sewer systems"? These are human beings. As long as we are divided we won't focus on the solution to the issue. These people do not "steal" our jobs. They do not lay in hiding waiting to jump out and get your position.
Many people choose every day to sit at home and mooch off the state and federal programs because they can rather than get a job and live within their meager means. Look at the jobs many hispanics do and tell me which one of you would do that and for the wage that the sleazy employer can get away with paying because they don't have to report them?
Stop the racism and stop blaming the people for trying to better their lives and the lives of their families.
You may have seen it on TV or read it on a web site but until you put youself and your family's life at risk and traveled many miles through the desert and mingled with durg runners, murderers and thieves to better your life, you really have no idea.
Are you so arrogant to think that they are doing this just so they can cause trouble here? Put some real thought into it for a minute before you blame the people. They are here for a reason. The jobs that they can get and the policies that exist that allow them to be. It is not their fault.
For them to sit in their third world country while we have basically a buffet of whatever you want 24/7 here would be as silly as you taking your tax rebate check and tearing it up because you know this will not really fix our economy and could actually damage it more in the long run and of course you always do what is morally right no matter what the cost, even if it means you will be passing up $1800 for your family.
Please do not do the "us and them" thing and look at us all as human inhabitants of this planet. We have a responsiblity to look out for one another and for the planet itself. Please.

I'm bilingual and it has not helped me at all in seeking employment. Oh, that's right, my second language is not Spanish. My bad! NOT!!

By the way, many hispanics are as legal as anyone else in this country. They reproduce just like anyone else does, which means that many of the increase are legal citizens born to legal citizens.

Here's a real easy way to solve the illegal immigration problem and help stimulate the economy. The government needs to put a bounty (could even be just ten dollars) on the head of any illegal immigrant in this country and any citizen can collect and turn any illegals they find to INS. The illegal immigration problem will be fixed quickly.

How will you identify the illegals as such?

Its time our government stood up and admitted to what they have allowed to happen.

we basiclly have a large percentage of a foreign nations population living illegally within our borders, and they are now trying to gain political power and influence within a country that they have no allegiance or citizenship for their own benifit and gain.

in any other nation in any other time this would be construed as a hostile invasion by foreign country and an act of war.
but in the US today we just quible about their "rights" and "diversity"
in a rush to hand over what our forefathers fought and died for.
and please dont give me the "youra racisthater" crap.
if you want to see and hear racism check out the "LA RAZA" website and motto.
"for the race, everything.
for all others..nothing"
what a nice multicultural and diverse message from this organization,eh?
