"ALWAYS check your facts frank. a cougar leopard jaguar and panther are all the same, just under different names according to where you are in north America and Latin America."

I know people call cougars panthers. They should not call them "black" panthers, however. because there is not one documented case of a black cougar. That is why I distinctly said that only jags and leopards are BLACK panthers. Let's see, who needs to check their facts?

PS If you are going to answer my post, please do not use Wikipedia.

why not? Wikipedia is a valued research guide. has an excellent reputation. sorry if you don't agree but thats life and i will use whatever research tool i choose. at least i use the facts if i find to be the truth and not my opinion
p.s. frank, i just went back and checked your name on the last two pages (because it sounded familiar)and it seems as though you are stalking me and little mrs. sunshine because you don't like our opinions. get a life. you cannot make people agree with you and then you don't like it when an honest to goodness valued site tells you you're wrong. in short go stalk someone else because i'm not answering your posts and i advise little miss sunshine not to either.

Now, I'm not stalking you, you sexy beast, but I think what you really meant to say is that panther is a word which can be used to describe several separate species of cat, depending upon where you live. You see, cougars, leopards, and jaguars not all the same. Each is a distinct species, but all three are called panther somewhere or another. In fact, frank is correct despite his despicable stalking behavior (much like a puma). Black panthers are either jaguars or leopards. No one has ever documented a black cougar. Missouri lies within the historical range of the jaguar. Leopards are native to Africa and Asia. Therefore, unless some circus let a pair of leopards go years ago, and they took hold, the best explanation for black panther sightings in Missouri is the jaguar.

I am not following anyone. When I get "new replies" to my posts, I respond.

You said,
"Why not? Wikipedia is a valued research guide"

Wikipedia is, at best, a valuable site to get the most basic of facts. Some of the entries are very good. Others are just someone's opinion. That is why not a single reputable college, or even high school, would allow Wikipedia as a source in a research paper.

My brother and I spotted a black panther in Cass county in the 60's. As far a cougars why not, there are quite a few in Kansas and other ajoining states. We have an abundant supply of deer why would the big cats not migrate into Missouri?

I live in Tn. in the country. I was sitting on my back porch one evening and thank goodness my dogs were in the porch with me. I saw 2 (looked like big black wolves) go along the fenceline. Both had their noses to the ground. The one following closely behind the other. My dogs were barking but they never looked up or anything. Just kept walking and went on by. I have said I think they were wolves. Too big for coyotes. To me it looked as if it was their regular route. Like they knew where they were going. Also have wild dog packs, feral hogs, lions and tigers and bears.

In 1999 I saw what looked like a black panther. I am sure of what I saw as far as the shape and size of the animal. But after doing some research I realized that there are now black cats native to north america. I realize that it was at dawn and I was looking back into the sun. I was seeing the animals outline and the sun being behind it, made it appear to be black. I have no doubt about what I saw. The cat was huge and had a long tail curled up. There were also other people in the area who confirmed seeing the animal.

Cougars are 40 something divorced White females with massive (high stank) vaginal yeast infections that make them only attractive to Gangsta negros for "black on blonde" (bottle blond/hiding the grey) sessions.
