A more appropriate headline:
Maine lawmakers embrace national suicide.

Hasn't the ACLU been tried for extortion and racketeering yet?

I dislike the ACLU and most of their actions. In this case, however, I am in agreement. We do not want or need a national identification card.

Most of those that endorse it are either ignorant of history and the consequences of such an act, or they are well aware and desire to use it to control the sheeple.

This is a list of documents accepted to apply for a drivers license.
I always thought redundant the SSN if you have a birth certificate, since you can't have a SSN if you don't have a birth certificate.

We may not like the fact that we need a national identification system, but we sure NEED IT.

Proper Identification
You will need proper identification in order to be issued a driver's license in Oklahoma. If you are transferring a valid license from another state and are not enacting a name change, you will need your current state's driver's license and your social security card.
If you are applying for a license for the first time, you will need any of the following primary identification:

Oklahoma ID Card.
State issued certified birth certificate.
City or county birth certificate.
Bureau of Indian Affairs ID card.
Citizenship naturalization documents.
Passport.
Military or military dependant ID.
Tribal ID cards.
Citizen born abroad certification.****
Alien registration card.
You will also need one of the following secondary ID:

Any primary ID.
Oklahoma student ID.
Social Security card.
Certified copy of marriage license, separation, or divorce judgment.
Original high school, college, or university diploma.
Oklahoma gun permit.
Insurance ID such as health, life, home, or auto.
Oklahoma voter registration card.
Pilot's license.
Deed to a property in Oklahoma.
Oklahoma employer ID.
Professional degree, certificate, or license¯ original or certified copy.
Deed to a property or burial plot in Oklahoma.
Oklahoma lifetime hunting or fishing license.
Medical/Medicaid card or medical eligibility card.
Medical examiner certificate (DOT).
Oklahoma Tax Commission Agriculture Exempt permit.

****I particularly would like to rub this one on the face of some in the anti-immigrant crowd around here.

ACLU should get a grip on the rampant stupidity its over-educated buffoons create.
They know nothing about moderation and they're sinking into a pile of shit. The principles they themselves were supposed to follow have been so twisted in practice that I wonder if the times of the Inquisition are back. On steroids.

Perfectly said. Thank you.

Also people forget that terrorists are not law-abiding people. They have no need to stretch themselves that far when their goal is to die while killing people. If the want to drive, they will.

But we the people cannot allow our rights and freedoms under the constitution to be removed because of what a few people called terrorists might do.
And allow the government to continue to encroach on our constitutional amendment privacy.

Besides one data base only makes it easier for the hacker-terrorists to steal people's identities, hit up one place boom huge identity theft.

Well that's where 'tis headed; an embedded chip of some kind. Because you can steal identities and finger prints. How you think police lift them?

So the next thing would be you need a chip and tattoo somewhere that annot be easily stolen. What are we? Cattle?
