Full story: Berkshire Eagle

Cecelia Burnett and Ann Swanson had already set their wedding date. When they joined about 1,000 other gay marriage supporters for an election night party in a Holiday Inn ballroom, they hoped to celebrate the vote that would make it possible.

Why do Maine residents have the right to vote on this issue but Massachusetts residents do not?

This is a Sad day for all of us, just goes to show you that this Day and age, there is still bigots out there that want to deny us the same rights as the Straights. Someday Gay Marriage will be legal thorughout the USA.!!!
Does that include Maine Lobsters?
If so, that's great because it'll cause the price of live Lobsters to fall due to less demand.

Now to get it on the Mass ballot. Does anyone know how we can get this on the ballot so the people can speak--not just the legislators? I'm all for it and yes everyones vote should count whether for or against it--that is the American way. And Frank sorry but the PEOPLE HAVE SPOKEN in Maine and 30 other states, Mass should follow with the peoples vote.

Marriage is between a man and a woman.

I'm not for discrimination in civil matters so civils unions with attending benefits are fine, do as thou wilt. God will sort you out.

But don't equate them with a holy union in God's eyes: Same sex marriages and sex outside of marriage is a sin.

I'm happy to hear that. Maybe lobster prices will fall, traffic jams on I-95 will be less frequent, and I can find a parking space at the beach too.

Too bad mASSachsetts voters, were denied their same "rights", by a legislature that rules rather than governs. That's why we have an appointed liberal shrill as acting US senator.

If all the states voted on this issue, instead of having these issues decided on behind closed doors; the country would stand squarely behind Maine.

Most people do not want homosexuality normalized, or heterosexual immorality either. Our children do not need to get the black book in their schools, be encouraged to "come out" by gay activist counselors, have "safe zones" in school, have GLSEN activists promote the joys of trangenderism.
How does sexuality as the highest freedom in America make us a better nation?

It doesn't.

Ok thats fine if you think that you have a Right to VOTE on my Civil Rights. Then I want the Right to VOTE on your Civil Rights and vote on who you can and Can not Marry. It's only Fair and Right, if you think that you have the Right to Vote on my Civil Rights then I deserve the same right too!
Civil Rights are NOT up for Debate nor up to the Voter's to Decide! We Deserve the same rights as you do as it pertains to Marriage. NOTHING Less !!! I am really getting sick of the Bigot's on this issue! Gay Marriage is here in Mass. Leave it alone and move on with your life, if you dont like it MOVE to another State!

If the Church does'nt approve of Gay Marriage, then they Dont have to pratice them. No one is forceing them to approve of them. There is plenty of other Church's & Justice of the Peace that are more then Happy to provide the service.!

Not true. I just dont believe that I am above the law like the gay community is.

You mean discriminate (not boycott). Dont preach discrimination and then do it yourself.

I agree...Massachusetts and every other state that allows SSM needs to get this on a upcoming ballot and end same sex marriage for good.

I always wonder why some of you straight guys get so worked up about this topic. Maybe you have issues, I don't know....

Why do you oppose giving same sex couples all the legal protections your marriage gives you? Do you somehow see yourself as superior? Gays aren't above the law, just equal with everyone else under the law. Bigots like you would like to see people deprived of that equal protection under the law.

Ever heard of live and let live? I wouldn't dream of telling you what's appropriate for your relationship, so butt out of mine.

Lastly, Massachusetts voters will not, on their own, reject marriage equality now that it's been the law of the land for over five years. The sky hasn't fallen, and we are too smart to let repressive forces from outside the state come in and try to manipulate us with lies and slander. I don't believe people should be able to vote on the rights of the minorities, but if it comes to that, you'll lose and we'll win.

Have a good day. By the way, the Eagles suck. Dallas will crush them on Sunday.

County courthouses sell marriage licenses; churches don't.

Judges and Justices of the Peace perform marriages. No church needed nor necessary.

Its been the American Way since the founding of our nation.

Vermont adopted civil unions in 2000 and over the years problems surfaced. Civil Unions turned out to be separate and not equal.

Marriage establishes kinship. Civil Unions do not.

This means civil unions are not portable. If a civil unioned couple moves to another state they are not civil unioned any more.
Married couples are still married no matter where they live because they are kin to each other by marriage.

Because civil union does not establish kinship, the couple's legal will can be contested by the family of the deceased and the surviving partner loses everything including jointly owned property.

Civil Union requires county courthouses to maintain dual geneology records which doubles the cost to the taxpayers.

After 8 years, Vermont converted all civil unions to marriages free of charge so they can maintain only one set of geneology records and eliminate constant court cases involving legal issues.

Not true. States do not have to recognize a marriage that took place in another state if they themselves to not recognize it.

There are two reasons.....

1. Marriage is between a man and a woman PERIOD.
2. When the gay community took the right to vote and to be heard away from the people of California which included my family. I have a right to be pissed. Same sex marriage is NOT a right. It is that simple.

Ive been on the record a few times stating that I have no problem with giving same sex couples all the federal rights that comes with a marriage, But it has to be under civil unions. If they dont want to accept that. Then that is their own fault.

And for your information. My nickname has nothing to do with the Philadephia Eagles. It is for the rock band "The Eagles" as I am a die hard fan of The Eagles and I was part of their road crew in 1994 and 2002. BTW, I have been a Dallas Cowboy fan since the Roger Staubach days. In the 1980's. I used to go to their training camps every year when I was out in California.
