Should we expect anything less from a political windbag?

omalley is such a liar. the sun continues to not write negative on the man who got one of the biggest tax increases in the united state history while everyone knew the economy was heading south. next legislative session he will want a gas hike to cover the lower mileage that people are driving, but the Sun in their great investigative reporting will fail to mention that for the next two yeaars some of the transportation fund is going to balane the budget. The shell game. Of course there is Mike Busch who cliams that Maryland has the highest wealth in country. What he fails to realize is that wealth is located in and around DC. Mr Busch should think like an elected offcial of another state where tyhey do not depend on government jobbs. For us taxpayers who do not have a government job or are a loyybist it is a touch road to hoe right now and all my elected one party state knows how to do is raise taxes, screw the seniors, and but money into failing schools. off shore drilling would only lower gas by four cents claims omalley. thus iit is not vialbe. glad that hillary lost because with his vision for the future, he makes paris glendening who almost bankrupt the state a genius. Martin start paying for your gas and feel the woes. You certain are a clown. Lets go Erhlich 2010.

I'm still waiting on more stories about O'Malley's 30% approval rating in a largely Democrat state that hates 2 Bushes, the president AND the one in the State Legislature, or how Mayor Sheila Dixon is now claiming it's not her fault contracts went to friends of hers. She wasn't MAYOR then she now claims, so it was O'Malley's decision ultimately! I for one cannot WAIT for these 2 clowns to start throwing each other under the bus! That's gonna be a hoot to watch.
Is The Sun afraid to tell people this stuff?
Or is the editorial staff too busy signing their Tribune buyout papers and writing their last "Michael Steele offers nothing but the color of his skin" editorials before the lights get turned off on Calvert Street??

This seems like a no brainer to me - go for the wind power. Anything to get off of oil!!!

Fabby, Kathy, and Gus...what on earth do your comments have to do with the article at hand? Not one of you spoke about the subject of the wind turbines. I am not an O'Malley fan either, but goodness, take a step off the soapbox and try writing a constructive comment.
These wind turbines to me are a no brainer. I just hope the rich home owners don't complain about it ruining their view which I think is an absurb argument for not doing the project.

Come on people. Instead of pitting the Democrats verses the Republicans, why can't the responders stick to the issues, or would they rather keep the Middle East billionaires happy. Go green and put up the windmills, encourage solar, and put water turbines in the rivers. Save your political comments and do something bipartisan. No wonder we can't get anything positive done in this country.

Paul and Bill-way to go. The billions of dollars that are going into widening our roaads should be going into mass transit and rail transport.

No wonder we can't get anything positive done in this country. You're right it should be about the turbines but the SUN's slant is to highlight MOM's "genius" for endorsing wind power. If it was an article just about wind power and did not include the politcal asskissing then you would have a point. People feel the need to comment on this since most feel he has done a poor job and has gone back on most of his campaign promises despite the ramblings of Paul Stupelo.

Well it's about time that O'Malley endorses Obama. Oh, wait, it says "Omalley backs windmills". I thought it said "Omalley backs windbag"

well, for the record lets keep the I-95 or ICC projects out of it, everyone loves to blame them on the state budget woes and its not the case. They are mostly an MdTA run project which obtained very little funds from the state - it's being paid for by the toll revenue collected at the tunnels and bridges throughout MD, and through financing secured as a promisary that the toll money in the ETL's will go to paying it back.
At any rate, I fully support wind turbines off the coast. I recently was at a realatives house of mine in West Virginia and about 15 miles from him was a whole ridgeline of wind turbines, couldnt even see them after about 10am it was too hazy outside, only saw them early one morning when I went to the top of the mountain to take pictures facing west, and even then they were tiny, took a while to figure out what they were. And at least here, we don't have to clear trees to make energy!

Let me see now, 60 wind turbines each producing 2 megawatts (best case) equals 120 megawatts.
Additionally that's 12 or more miles of undersea cables.
One new design nuclear reactor plant produces 2400 megawatts (two reactors). Such a nuclear reactor is currently operational in the South.
In Wyoming and Utah the wind turbines go on for miles, as there are vast open spaces used only for grazing cows that are employed.

What happens if/when a boat runs into a turbine out in the water? And can these things survive a direct hit from a hurricane?

Absolutley wind needs to be part of the solution! Your car might not run off of electricity, but the cars of the future certainly will; and putting them on a grid fueled by wind and solar, means that they aren't running off of oil and coal.
The 'viewscape' issues shouldn't even be an issue, and heres why: if you live close enough to the shore to see these things 13 miles off (even though most people need glasses to see a NEWSPAPER), then you ought to be worried about what coal-fired power plants and oil consumption is doing to warm the planet. If climate change goes unabated, your waterfront property is going to be seafloor property, and then the view won't much matter!
Lets make sure these things are sited in a way where impacts to migrating fish and birds are minimized, and then lets move forward!

"We're interested, but we're concerned what the horizon will look like," Ocean City Mayor Rick Meehan said afterward
Really...
I wonder how OC will look when the streets are empty and the economy is dying because gas and BGE bills are too high for anyone to take a vacation.
