Few would want slots near home

There's been keno, lottery, poker machines on every street corner in Maryland for years so what difference does it make if we now have slot machines. The people against slot machines may not gamble and that is all fine and good for them but many in Maryland enjoy a day or night out at a casino for their enjoyment. It doesn't always end in crime or drugs. Many mom and pops get on the buses to Delaware or Atlantic City or drive every day to get out of their houses for the day to enjoy themselves. Why not let them spend their own hard earned money any way they want but keep the revenues here in Maryland.

I have no problem with slots, but I do have a problem with putting slots in the state constitution.
Slots should be a local government decision with the lion's share of the benefits going to the local jurisdiction. The state's only role should be to ensure that payouts are as disclosed and to tax the income like it taxes any other business. |

I certainly don't think the state should tell what area have to have slots. It should be up to the loacl jurisdiction.
If the state does decide where slot will go, I think the first place should be Annapolis. Personally, I think the state should go for broke and allow table gaming as well. Get one up on West Virginia and Deleware and get more people here. In for a penny, in for a pound. |
That is my beef with slots also, the issue does not belong in te Maryland constitution. |

Put 'em across the street. It'll hack off the neighbors and I'll get the valet parking concession!

It is not a constitutional issue. Each county and subdivision therein should determine if gambling will be allowed. There are plenty of locations in downtown Baltimore that could be renovated and turned into nice hotel/casinos.

And it would make the city less of a drain on the rest of the state. |

All we do in Maryland is say "not in my backyard" while all that money crosses the State lines. They didn't want Nascar either, but guess what? Dover rakes in millions for the minor discomfort of 2 weeks out of every year having thousands of peopel come and spend their money.

Um what is Ocean City for?? Put some casinos there, the city is built on tourism and its already a mad house all summer.

I could not agree more! Put several full fledged casinos in the state, heck several in OC, a couple in the city, and a couple in western md; they would have nice competition with each other, draw tons of Pa/De/VA/NJ/WVa $, create tons of jobs (even a few good ones). |
