Call me old-fashioned, I really don't care. But sex a very adult thing, and preferably saved within the bounds of marriage. Yes, I said it, marriage. I hear of too many youngsters, 16 years old and under, who have contracted STD's and HIV to think otherwise. Just 16 and already they have to deal with some very adult issues, like what they'll tell a future spouse or if they'll be able to bear children or even if they'll be alive long enough to do either one. While I'm not naive enough to think that just because the age of consent has been moved up that it will prevent those who want to engage in sex early from doing so, and of course, we'll always have the perverts who will abuse children no matter what, but if it gives one kid a chance to a to really "think" and put it if off, then I'm for it.

Today's late teens and early 20's are so behind those of previous generations and they have this entitlement issue that is deep rooted. With that said, personal maturity and teachers having sex with students is 2 different topics.

Teens having (or not having) sex is one of those issues I chalk up to the parenting. Where parents are involved in their kid's lives, helping them to make the right choices but also having a level of trust that they will make the correct choices on their own usually produces a teenager that does make good decisions - there can be exceptions of course. OTOH parents who are not involved in their kid's lives can produce many other serious consequences besides STD's and teen pregnancy, and it's certainly not only in the poorer, urban areas. The Columbine killers came from well-to-do homes, and somehow those parents were not aware that their kids had many guns, ammo, bomb-making materials etc..? How can parents be that ignorant of their own children?
