Rockytopzz wrote: <quoted text>We have the poisonous water moccasin snake here. I read about this one man who jumped into the lake and jumped right in the middle of a pack of those snakes. Nobody could save him. One time a few years ago I went out in back of my woods and walked right up on a doe, it startled me and I walked backwards and almost stepped on a water moccasin. I think it was slightly too cold for the snake to do anything. My son - lived in the US for some time for his education told me about the water moccasin. He hates snakes....he said the water moccasin, contrary to most other snakes, are aggressive. I don't know how to tackle living with such creatures around me - especially how to let the kids play freely without me being worried for them....

Not known why they die off in Mexico - but still it is not established whether all 103 cases till now there are truely swineflue cases. No request from Norwegian health authorities for Norwegians to stay off Mexico/infected area but only to observe careful behaviour - not to mingle with a lot of people. So - hopefully - the press will earn money on the news - the rest of us will be just ok whether we read their sensational headlines or not....have another cold beer and wait for the wind to turn. "Be happy - don't worry.." we'll sing that one from the top of our tree, Bethie - in moonshine - provided you don't sound like a wolf cry when singing of course. Too many waited to late to seek medical help....is my guess. It is so sad.

My dad killed poisonious snakes without hesitation...but when it came to black snakes he would leave em be...they kept rodents & bugs out of his garden! Picking berries along the water or anywhere else really, could be considered highly dangerous...snakes love to hang out in the berry bushes. Most people had a stick with a sharp knife blade secured in the bottom, for berry picking.

But that is probably not so strange when I read your post above! (Just read it again: "Grandpa"(Bestefar) passed away in 1982. He hasn't had Julekake since then "- !!)(I believe you already first time telling me!) LOL! Perhaps you could make him a julekake? You like baking? I like to bake, but I'm not very good at it. For some reason nothing ever comes out right. I can cook..soups, stews etc. Although Mike makes fantastic chowder. He has me beat on that one. Clam chowder is the best...Manhattan (red) and New England (white) style. I love them both equally. Especially on a cold winter day.

People say we are going to have bigger problems with ticks and such because of global warming. And also deadly diseases that have been laying dormant in the ground coming back to life. Mike's eye is completely swollen from poison ivy...I think it looks like sumac. I tried looking it up on the internet before. His legs are covered and his privates (his area burns from it) I'm putting cold rags on him at night. He's going nuts because he wants to itch it. I gave him Benadryl last night, but it makes him groggy in the morning. He won't go to the doctor. States he doesn't have the time, but I say he does....he just doesn't like going to the doctors.

SNJ wrote: <quoted text> Once in a hotel in Paris someone knocked my door frenetically at 2:30 am. Half asleep I opened the door carefully and suspicious, only to see a stark naked young lady, confused and believing she knocked her own door. Appeared she had been sleepwalking (and no doubt after some wine the evening before)and "woke up" in the corridor completely lost. She just had to knock what door she believed was hers as she had forgotten her room number. She saw immediately that I was not her partner - he was fast asleep in their room. What would you do Rocky? I invited her in - immediately understanding her panick I think. She was caught between the devil and the deep blue sea to judge from her looks - but after a few seconds thinking she accepted. The least of two evils I think she thought. I wrapped something around her and called the receptionist. She did remember the name of her partner at least and via the receptionist I called him. You should have seen HIS face when he rushed into my room to bring her back finding a young, handsome Norwegian in his boxers only together with his naked partner. I laughed - he did not. Next morning at the breakfast, however, he came across to my table and thanked me. He was from San Francisco - his naked partner from San Diego. She was too embarrassed to come across. And then comes the part you wouldn't believe - I hardly do believe it myself; Back in 1994 during the Winter Olympics in Lillehammer, Norway I bumped into a lady in the main street of little Lillehammer. I immy recognized her. She said "sorry" and was about to walk on when I said . "Hey, we've met before - haven't we?" She looked up and no recognition was traceable so I said that we had met an early morning in a hotel in Paris many years ago. I saw for a split second a panic in her eyes - before she laughed..Oh, yes I'll never forget that moment when you opened the door and I expected- or hoped - to see someone I knew. She had 3 sons with her to Lillehammer and all of them, like herself, were frequent sleepwalkers she told me....They had moved to New York - Long Island I think. I don't expect to see them another time....at least not 2:30 in the morning in Paris... I've always since felt happy by the thought it was her and not me being caught naked in a hotel corridor ....for a liberal I am a bit shy actually. You should have told her "we'll always have Paris"-lol That's where I live..Long Island. Embarrassing indeed! I can see that happening...many times I've left for ice, grab something from the car, extra towels etc. etc. and have forgotten what room number...fully dressed of course. Just recently in Virginia...I went to get ice and had to ease drop on the room I thought I might be in. I knew if it sounded like a zoo...that was my room. And I always forget to bring the key card. Don't know why I do that...too many distractions maybe..?? My son sleepwalks. We spoke to the doctor about it and he told us not to wake him up...just direct him back to his room. I have a small wind chime on his door. When Mike or I hear it...we just lead him back to bed.

And they have to wait to see if they will receive full refund for airfare. They'll know by May 8th. One of my mother's friends told me tonight...the paper is claiming 2,000 Mexicans have it, but WHO (world health org.) is claiming the numbers are higher and the CDC is involved now. I think my mom stated they are closing borders. I don't know why my parents and their friends would choose to go to Cancun in the first place...I've heard you can't leave the compound your staying in (even before the trouble down there) and the people are very poor. Why would they want to vacation in a poor area...it would depress me.
