what do buyers mean by that? how many snarls?how large the actual roots are?does wild ginseng get more?

we have alot already this year and it's the best ever. some of the best looking ginseng ever dug...found more this year than in all the last ten years combined (all wild)
...we had alot of snow last winter and all the old timers here predicted that this season would be the best ever for finding more of the stuff...indeed that is true. a friend of ours dug up a root that has a 7inches of snarl...

we want wild mature ginseng. there are markets for your woods grown seng and cultivated seng that is about a third the quality of wild. I have been buying seng for thirty years and this is the softest crop I have seen come through my doors in quite some time. it may still be a bit early but the diggers that I have dealt with long enough they saw and watched my children grow up are telling me that it is tuff hunting this year and they are not passing over the yellow root when they find it which helps fill my yellow root orders but the seng orders will be hard to fill. good luck in the woods and stay below the frost line its already gone above it,and this weeks weather will not help matters. we always throw back the seeds...and never dig it all ...saving for another time..however here in Newport, va.(a stone's throw from wv.) the sang is bigger and better than we have seen in 20 years...more tops seen while hunting and the roots are very old..
all of ours is totally wild...so we are hoping it might bring a little more. we had some deep snow last winter and it stayed for months...the old timers around here said early on the sang would be good this summer and it is indeed...we already have several pounds dry..if you go by the snarls for age then ours is mostly sixty or seventy years old...we have a friend that found a four prong that stood four feet tall...like i said, this is the best we have ever seen or dug...

I called Wilson's Fur and Ginseng in Russell Springs on Friday Oct 17 and they said they were giving $515 a pound.
I think it will reach at least 600 this year.
