Do one have to be "in charge" to express an opinion or a political preference ??
Obama gives a very serious impression and inspires confidence. Bush never managed that to any significant degree- and now we can see that all of us, don't we?!
What does "political opinions" have to do with our brains being blown out? Obama makes me confident that if he is elected, he will destroy or economy. Think it's bad now? Ain't seen nothing yet. As far as your reply to Bethie, not having experience is not important? Forgive me, kinda a newb her, but are you nuts? Obama wants to have "unconditional" talks with Iran. Did you know when the current regime took power 30 years ago, they hunted down every christian and jew they could find, and slaughtered them? They would tie a babys arms (one to it's mother, one to it's father), and pulled the baby appart by pulling on the parents who were tied to horses. They have vowed to wipe Israel and its allies of the planet. Now Obama whats to have Tea and crumpets with them? Oboma has a staff of over 100 paid advisers. Tell me how much of what comes out of his mouth is his idea please. His flip flops only prove he is willing to say anthing to get elected. giving him the keys to the country would be like giving a 12 year old the keys to your car, and sending them out on a busy road.

I am so glad that we disagree and that we can still be friends. That is one of the freedoms that I have enjoyed all my life. The right to my opinion and the right to listen to others opinions.
Personally I can not nor will I vote for Obama. His adgenda is not my adgenda.
John McCain does not want to stay in Iraq but he does want to leave it adjusted and stable. We have issues in our country that takes first call to the other world. I think it's time for us to put our country first and not worry about the rest.
I do like John McCain and he is NOT running on a third term Bush. He will not be like Bush he will be John McCain. Obama I just can not tolerate. His very name brings chills to my spine. His wife is disgusting and I am sick of listening to her lack of wisdom.
SNJ, I respect your opinion and I welcome it. You know that in the past we resorted to name calling back and forth and I refuse to do that back to you now. You are my friend, Internet Topix friend and for that reason you remain close to my heart. I want to hear your opinion but I will not necessarily go along with it.
But please keep them coming!!!!!!!!!!
Don't worry - amongst my personal friends I have people from arch conservatives to good ol' communists. We simply don't discuss politics but no-one hides his views "from case to case".
i call it diversity - and everyone learns something all the time from the "opposite" side.
I haven't got a clue about Obama's wife but may I suggest that with your views on him she hasn't got a snowballs chance in hell with you!??(lol!)

Ok, I read what you say but I draw my own conclusions. I don't nourish the fear tht you do
provided a realistic "Tea party" can be arranged (read: "DIALOGUE").
"Forget" 30 years ago. World has changed, methods have changed, new truths and new players - and they are very many. Time will show.
Your "brains blown out of your sculls" (if Obama is not voted your next president) was no offence - just expressing you must not lose the chance you've got now to get another, very different - and I am sure - very competent President. Take care so that you do not lose sight of the forest because of all the trees.....

Bethie:
Obama will not be the begining of the end. That begining is already behind you.
He will have to get you a new tax scheme. Some people simply have to contribute more - some on low incomes should have some release.
Even McCain will have to look at that I'm sure but I doubt the dedication amongst the republicans in this sense. You've simply got to reduce the number defined as living under the poverty line in the U.S. You cannot have milions and millions of desillusionized, uneducated and mentally and physically ill-nourished children and youth entering society as adults and parents
on minimum wage (or less!)or unemployed. That will only add to the criminal wolf packs in your society. It must be more important to avoid that than somewhat higher gas prices, which probably can be achieved simply by reduced driving.

Victor:
It looks like Obama is getting a certain grip on foreign policies. The speach in Germany yesterday
is a promising indication of that.
It is very interesting, and hardly a coincidence, that Obama has an advisor now that may feel Obama is worth his efforts.Heard about professor Phillip Chase Bobbitt -nephew of your previous president Lyndon B. Johnson and by Henry Kissinger desribed as the most gifted political philosopher of our times - now living in London UK ??
If you get and read Phillip Chase Bobbitts last book "Terror and Consent" you will quickly see where Obama is getting his arguments and thoughts.
Obama has managed to fascinate and starts to convince both liberal and conservative European politicans by now as goes his foreign policies.
So far it doesn't seem as if Bobbitts most radical view till now has sunk into the vocabulary of Obama, i.e. that all we think we know about war and terrorism is wrong. According to Bobbitt the Iraqi war is the best example proving the theory. If you cannot protect the civil population, you can take land and areas and defeat milita-groups as much as you want but that is no longer the way you will win a war.
(As I've said in another post: It will take a big heart and a good brain to WIN a war).

Anyway , if Obama wins the election I am convinced you will get to know Phillip Chase Bobbitt a lot better than you do today.

The good news is we are winning, and Bush's surge worked. Obama,( who said it won't work early in the primaries, and advised we get our troops out now), now says it worked as well. Here is the flip,....flop. Now he says we need to set a "time table" for withdraw from Iraqi. He goes from "turn tail and run" to a "timely withdraw". Too funny. I'm glad Bobbitts was wrong. I would hate to think Americans died so we could loose.

ARLINGTON, VA -- Today, McCain 2008 spokesman Tucker Bounds issued the following statement on Barack Obama's speech in Germany today:

"While Barack Obama took a premature victory lap today in the heart of Berlin, proclaiming himself a 'citizen of the world,' John McCain continued to make his case to the American citizens who will decide this election. Barack Obama offered eloquent praise for this country, but the contrast is clear. John McCain has dedicated his life to serving, improving and protecting America. Barack Obama spent an afternoon talking about it."

the last time a major American political figure delivered an open-air speech in Berlin, 10,000 riot police had to use tear gas and water cannons to repel violent demonstrators. It was June 1987, the speaker was Ronald Reagan, his message was: "Mr. Gorbachev, tear down this wall." Press accounts characterized the line as "provocative"; the Soviets called it "war-mongering"; 100,000 protesters marched against Reagan in the old German capital of Bonn. Two years later, the Berlin Wall fell.
Reagan's speech is a lesson in the difference between popularity and statesmanship. Watching Mr. Obama yesterday in Berlin, and throughout his foreign tour, was a reminder of how far the presumptive Democratic nominee has to go to reassure people he is capable of the latter -- "people," that is, who will actually get to cast a ballot in November

As he has been for much of the week while his Democratic rival traveled to Iraq, Afghanistan, Israel and Europe, McCain highlighted the differences in the two candidates' characterization of the surge.

"My choice was not smart politics," McCain said. "It didn't test well in focus groups. It ignored all the polls. It also didn't matter. The country I love had one final chance to succeed in Iraq. The new strategy was it. So I supported it. Today, the effects of the new strategy are obvious. The surge has succeeded, and we are, at long last, finally winning this war."

In contrast, he said, "Senator Obama made a different choice. He not only opposed the new strategy, but actually tried to prevent us from implementing it. He didn't just advocate defeat, he tried to legislate it. When his efforts failed, he continued to predict the failure of our troops."

McCain added: "Senator Obama said this week that even knowing what he knows today that he still would have opposed the surge. In retrospect, given the opportunity to choose between failure and success, he chooses failure. I cannot conceive of a Commander in Chief making that choice."

I believe this is one of the most important elections that we have had in the history of the United States. I certainly don't know if Obama is the Anti-Christ. Maybe???? or perhaps he may be the forerunner.....or not....I just know I am terribly concerned about the countenance of this man. He seems to be able to speak to large groups and people intrepret it differently. He seems to promise peace???? He did attend the same church for 20 years and said he never heard any of those types of negative statements that his minister had made. Perhaps he didn't attend very often or didn't pay attention, it would appear that that anyone as passionate as Jerimiah Wright, would make similiar statements periodically. Tom had written earlier that Obama is currently Baptist, last I read he was United Church of Christ. Has he changed his denomination yet again? We as Christians need to be much in prayer over this election and cast our votes prayerfully. OUr future depends on it.

Strange enough it seems that popularity in Europe may be a disadvantage for him in the USA.
Give that a thought!

Some years back Bush declared "mission accomplished" (in Iraq). Well it still isn't.
We all know that Iraq was not Al Qaida/Taliban's first choice for nesting, but Afghanistan was/is.
That is probably why their activity now escalate in Afghanistan whilst USA consentrate on Iraq. And there the civil population is still far from protected.

As I have already said: Now there are other players and other methods ,new thoughts that go in direction of dialogue combined with avoiding confrontations as much as possible.
I think Obama has understood that, McCain probably not.

It is still a long way to go before the Iraqi war is "won" - if it can ever be "won".

My vote goes for John McCain, at least I know what he has done, who he is and what he stands for.
Obama went to a church for twenty years where hatred spewed out of the pulpit. His "friend" Rev (use that term lightly) hates whites. Now I have friends who hate blacks and I know it because of how they act and what they say---it didn't take ME twenty years and Fox News to tell me this. I believe you can love in silence but you can not hate in silence. Sean Hannity is not misleading anyone when he questions Obama.
SNJ you are right about one thing---Europe liking Obama may just be his down side. There is so much socialism in the east. We have signs of socialism here but when it comes right down to it none of us would really want to live under Socialism. WE are the government, WE need to get rid of those in our government who continue to vote against OUR will. If 72% of the Amereican people want to begin drilling for oil, then how can the Democrats stop that? WE ARE THE GOVERNMENT in this country. Pelosi and Reid should be shipped off to the planet they came from along with Obama.
As for Iraq-we should get the hell out of there when it is stable enough to leave. If Obama becomes president with a liberal congress and they withdraw from Iraq too soon WE WILL HAVE A THIRD WAR THERE!
I know, SNJ, I say "liberal" as if it is a bad thing. To me it is. In this country the liberals want the government to be in control of all-----this is not acceptable considering that they are not making decisions that will help this country.
Why haven't they shored up the dollar?
Why have they allowed inflation to get away from us? Back in the later 90, the manufactures of product began to maintain the same pricing but slowly decrease the size of the product you were buying. A recipe would call for a 16oz can and you would only find a 15.9oz can.
Bush is a pain-in-the-butt and I personally voted for the man twice. First time I was right---Gore would have been awful-the man is a hipocrate. The second time I had no choice--Kerry was a huge joke. George Bush is not a good president, but at least he was better than the other choices.
OMG we sit here writing back and forth hoping to change others opinions. NO I DO NOT. This is how I FEEL. And in this country I respect all of your opinions.
BTW, SNJ is really a great guy-- just don't let him know that! LOL Thanks for getting me going Kaye!!! LOL

Read this evening here about the tragedy in the Knoxville church today.
Suggest you all get legislation in place. That's the only way you can hope for reducing the flow of legal and illegal weapons in the U.S.(I know you so agree with me here too of course )(lol)

You know Bethie: I am not a socialist and don't fear the modern "Social-democratic" versions of today. In old days in Norway people believed there were trolls in the forests and the vikings feared thunder because it was their god "Tor" (="torden"="thu nder") who was angry at them. No sense in modern Norwegians believing in any of them, Trolls or Tor! I don't want you to live in the past either!
See what I mean?

Another thing: the cost of the Iraqi war has contributed severely to your enormous trade deficits which America has financed in the Far East, not at least China. Oil prices and food prices now are also contributing to your inflation. It all has roots this time in times
when the repucblicans/Bush have been at the helm. I cannot understand that the dems can be made responsible this time.
Due to your gigantic loans abroad yoiur power is sliding out of your hands now and into theirs (
asia, first and foremost China). That is something I would have feared ten times more than any of your fears today!
Statesmanship must a.o. be to achieve your goals
WITHOUT confrontations. I guess that is Obama's message at the end of the day. And I simply agree with him. No-one EVER "Wins" a war. There are only losers.
