Accepted without comment that five of his cabinet members cheated on their taxes and two other nominees withdrew after they couldn't take the heat. 15. Appointed a Homeland Security Chief who identified military veterans and abortion opponents as "dangers to the nation." 16. Sent his National Defense Advisor to Europe to assure them that the US will no longer treat Israel in a special manner and they might be on their own with the Muslims. 24. Nationalized General Motors and Chrysler while turning shareholder control over to the unions and freezing out retired investors who owned their bonds. Committed unlimited taxpayer billions in the process. 26. Passed a huge energy tax in the House that will make American industry even less competitive while costing homeowners thousands per year. 27. Announced nationalized health care "reform" that will strip seniors of their Medicare, cut pay of physicians, increase taxes yet another $1 trillion, and put everyone on rationed care with government bureaucrats deciding who gets care and who doesn't. Bloomberg: Daschle says, "Health care reform will not be pain free. Seniors should be more accepting of the conditions that come with age instead of treating them," while former Colorado Governor Dick Lamm says seniors have "a duty to die." If this does not sufficiently raise your ire, just remember that the President, Senators and Congressmen have their own special gold plated health care plan which is guaranteed the remainder of their lives and they are not subject to this new law if they pass it. |

1 Emanuel has written that its troublesome that the Hippocratic Oath currently drives Doctors "to do everything for the patient regardless of cost or effect on others" and favors factoring in costs and allocations across the entire system as the primary determinate of which test and treatments should be performed. In his own words: "services provided to individuals who are irreversibly prevented from being or becoming participating citizens are not basic and should not be guaranteed. An obvious example is not guaranteeing health services to patients with dementia." (Hastings Center Report, November-December, 1996) On numerous occasion Emanuel criticizes doctors for thinking only about their own patient's needs and how problematic such a mindset can be: "Patients were to receive whatever services they needed, regardless of its cost. Reasoning based on cost has been strenuously resisted; it violated the Hippocratic Oath, was associated with rationing, and derided as putting a price on life.... Indeed, many physicians were willing to lie to get patients what they needed from insurance companies that were trying to hold down costs." (JAMA, May 16, 2007). Talking about his complete lives system Emanuel says, "When implemented, the complete lives system produces a priority curve on which individuals aged roughly 15 and 40 years get the most substantial chance, whereas the youngest and oldest people get changes that are attenuated" -The Lancet, Jan. 31, 2009 So yes, if Obama needs someone to speak about his new health care rationing plan, then I think his top health care adviser would do a great job of getting the truth out. Though I suppose he's not really the man for the job if getting the truth out isn't what Obama wants to do. Another suggestion might to re-brand the message yet again. They started calling it "Health Care Reform", vilifying the doctors; that didn't work so they tried calling it "Health Insurance Reform" and went after the evil insurance companies. That's not working out so well either, so perhaps they should just try calling a spade a spade and rename it to the "Nationalized Health Rationing System." |

1 This is another false claim, spread by e-mail. All that Daschle said was that "Healthcare reform will not be pain free." The rest was accomplished by a slight shift in quotation marks in the article quoted in Bloomberg. According to the e-mail, Daschle was quoted in a Bloomberg story saying, "Seniors should be more accepting of the conditions that come with age instead of treating them." Bloomberg did run a story about health provisions in the stimulus package on Feb. 9, 2009, under the headline "Ruin Your Health With the Obama Stimulus Plan: Betsy McCaughey." It was a commentary piece written by Betsy McCaughey, former lieutenant governor of New York and an adjunct senior fellow at the Hudson Institute. "Daschle says health care reform 'will not be pain-free.' Seniors should be more accepting of the conditions that come with age instead of treating them. That means the elderly will bear the brunt." We contacted McCaughey to see which parts of this were her words and which were Daschle's. ** The phrase that health care reform "will not be pain-free" is a direct quote from Daschle, she explained. ** **She said the sentence beginning "Seniors should be more accepting" was her paraphrasing . This is labeled an opinion piece. The point is that these are McCaughey's words, not Daschle's. The last sentence, "That means the elderly will bear the brunt," was her conclusion, McCaughey said.** McCaughey said she is a meticulous scholar and "I regret any misrepresentations made by others of my work or Mr. Daschle's views." In the chain e-mail, quote marks are shifted, clouding the issue of who is actually speaking, and the e-mail suggests that Daschle actually said that.** A few shifted quote marks make all the difference here. Instead of McCaughey's words, they become Daschle's.** |

1 ... Politicizing of the Justice Department. Firing Federal prosecutors for political reasons. Senior members of Justice Department resign over politicizing of American justice. Justice Dept. head Gonzalez resigning in disgrace because of his involvement with firing of federal prosecutors for political reasons, placing politics ahead of justice. Cheney "loses" thousands of pieces of correspondence that would have proved his innocence (or guilt) over the firing of the federal prosecutors. He had been required by law to save them. He had ordered his "people" to communicate via laptops instead of government computers, so correspondence could not be traced, another violation of law. All such correspondence is the domain of the US government (that is to say, it belongs to the citizens of the United States). Dept. of Interior found to be in collusion with big oil: exchange of bribes, money and, yes, even sex. Bush tries to nominate his personal lawyer to become a Supreme Court Justice. As a result, Harriet Meyers embarrasses herself, the administration, and quickly backs down as soon as the Congress begins to ask her questions about Constitutional law. Rumsfeld mismanaging the war from the beginning, against the advice of Powell and Pentagon. He resigns. Illegal wiretapping. Collapsed financial market; Collapsed housing market; collapsed auto industry. Inherited $100 Billion surplus, then handed off $1.5 Trillion debt... And this is just the tip of the iceberg. |

1 An open invitation to all you Bush supporters. Eight years of administrative autonomy. He must have accomplished an incredible number of things during that time. Think about it: eight years of unimpeded rule. Will you kindly list his accomplishments? I mean, you defend him out the wazoo. Keeping us "safe" from terrorists hardly qualifies as one of them. After all, a guy who allows the worst terrorist act in US history while on his watch kind of disqualifies him in that regard. Who WOULDN'T be vigilant after that? I will even offer you three that you might not think of: he designated some underwater ocean sites as protected in his last two years (the last two years that Cheney cites as a time when Bush went "soft"), and he increased Medicare drug availability for the elderly. He increased AIDS finding for Africa. For good measure, I'll even throw in a fourth. It has been determined that Bush spent a total of FIVE DAYS on trying to resolve the Israeli/Palestinian conflict during his eight years in office. Go for it! People keep defending him but never explain what, exactly, they defend. |

"Sided with Hugo Chavez and Communist Fidel Castro against Honduras" Sided, actually, with the entire Organization of American States against the overthrow of the democratically elected government of Honduras. You "embellish" the truth. That is to say, you intentionally lie because the truth alone won't support you. A Republican tactic, reflected in the present health care debate. "Announced we would meet with Iranians with no pre-conditions while they're building their nuclear weapons." Because he believes in the importance of dialogue. Most Republicans have now come around on this because this scare tactic that you are now using was tried during the election campaign and failed. Even John McCain now agrees with with idea of dialogue. "Doubled our national debt." The first half ($1.5 Trillion) is due in large part to two wars no Americans have wanted to pay for over the first six years (and we are now indebted to China because of that).(Bush inherited a $100 Billion surplus, and handed off a $1.5 Trillion debt.) The second half of the debt is a combination of investments to pull us out of the free-fall in the our economy, which the President also inherited one Day One as well as bailout, which was begun (TARP) under Bush. "Appointed a Homeland Security Chief who identified military veterans and abortion opponents as "dangers to the nation."" Oh, please! "Circled the globe to publicly apologize for America 's world leadership." You are getting too funny! You're so wacky! "Announced nationalized health care "reform" that will strip seniors of their Medicare." It will not. Stop scaring people. "Sent his National Defense Advisor to Europe to assure them that the US will no longer treat Israel in a special manner and they might be on their own with the Muslims." Oh, of course that's what they were told. Please refer to "Embellisment of the truth," above). No one can really take you seriously at this point. |
