Lobbyist defends work in run for Senate

“One of the things that is amazing to me is these politicians that take money from all these special interests and all these lobbyists want to turn around and blast all the people that line up in front of their office every day”

The revolving door between former members of Congress and lucrative lobbying firms usually leads one way. But Jim Slattery is trying to make a U-turn.

After spending more than a decade in Washington making millions of dollars at one of the nation's most prestigious law firms, the former Democratic congressman from Topeka is jumping back into the political arena in a bid to unseat Sen. Pat Roberts, R-Kan.

Roberts' campaign has already gone after Slattery with radio ads calling him a 'Gucci loafers and all' lobbyist who's out of touch with voters. Read more

'I never took on a client or a cause that I did not believe in,' Slattery, 69, said in an interview.

Most politicians believe whichever direction the money comes from, so that's not a particular problem for Jim. A lobbyist is a lobbyist, regardless of what he calls himself. Now he has all the right connections to make himself even more wealthy at the people's expense.

A lobbyist *is* a lobbyist, though not all lobbyists are evil or immoral. Jack Abramoff and others have given lobbyists a bad name, but remember that for every cause you believe in, there's a lobbyist working on behalf of that cause. You may not agree with every cause Slattery represented, but that doesn't mean that the lobbying in and of itself is bad.

The problem with lobbyists is that they don't normally represent the population as a whole. They only represent a small fraction. And anytime a lobbyist is listened to, in most cases more people suffer than are benefited. The system has been corrupted by the unscrupulous ones and until there is serious reform, money will continue to flow in the wrong direction.

To McCain McNasty,

Uh, where have you been?

You either missed it or you're not too savy politically, but the democrats took over both House of Congress a little over 1 1/2 years ago.

UH, you may have missed some of your civics lessons in school as well, so I'll remind you that all laws and all spending bills begins in Congress.
Democrats made a big deal back then reminding everyone that gas prices were on the rise, they promised to do something about that. When took control of Congress gas was $2.19 per gallon.

You wrote:
Republicans aren’t doing so well lately. Gosh, what could it be? Besides:

The economy going in to the toilet...$3.70 for gasoline... TWO BOTCHED WARS, giving our troops tanks without proper armor, providing substandard treatment in VA hospitals, turning the U.S. in to the country that’s known around the world for TORTURING PRISONERS, then lying about it, doing NEARLY NOTHING ABOUT ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION... gosh, if those aren’t what did it... what else could it be?

Were the Dems sucessful in getting gas prices changed? YES. It is now $3.75 per gallon.
THAT'S A 71% INCREASE, THANKS TO THE DEMOCRATS LEADING CONGRESS. 71%, 71%, 71%. Yo Dofus, do you get it........71% Republicans had nothing to do with it. And you had the nerve to blame that on Republicans. You dunce.

Now to your comment of:
"Has anyone else had enough of Republican
economics, Republican moralizing and
Republican wars yet?"

We are not living or experiencing Republican ecomonics. Remember, 1 1/2 years ago, the Dems took control of BOTH Houses of Congress.

There is no president who ever has, or ever will, initiate legislation for a spending bill.
That is now in the hands of the Democrats. Don't forget that.

Regarding the TWO BOTCHED WARS you referred to:

Everyone in Congress (democrats and republicans) voted to give President Bush the authority and the funding to begin the war in both countries.

Since the beginning of the war, they have voted yay or nay, to continue funding the TWO BOTCHED WARS, as you referred to them, and funding has always been provided by the democrats.

I understand, being a liberal democrat, you want to advance your agenda, but lying and deceptive spinning on your part is not going to work.

Oh yeah, you keep posting this list of all these (questionable) republicans who appear to be less then honorable people.

But you use this disclaimor:
Note: Some of the cases below involve allegations but not convictions. All suspects are to be considered innocent until proven guilty.

I am going to create a list of Democrats, and I would like it to include your name. Can you email me your real name?

I will use the same disclaimor, so you have nothing to worry about.

By the way, I think I recognized the names of three of those republicans........great list.

Who on earth are the others? Can you tell me the offices they hold or held? How about the states where they held office?

You're a freak. Go learn something, and start telling the truth.
who are you

I've seen you issue this challenge before, yet you do not post your full name.
