How about running a campaign that foucses on the issues at hand? Now wouldn't that be a novel approach to getting elected? Just think, no mud tossed around, no accusations, no half-truths, just "this is what I'd like to do for the country". That might even help increase the number of voters and we'd get politicians who gave a crap about something other than their over-inflated egos.

My guess is Pat Roberts was going to run a above board campaign until the Dems started slinging mud. This is really dumb to attack a Senator of such good standing.

The Dems want it both ways. Fair to them and screw the Republicans. Not Prudent.+

The rules only apply to the other guy in politics, no matter the party.

e p Amurican,

You are right about the rules beinf situational, however, SNB's observation is one that I have had since I first saw this thread posted.

The whinning by the Dems seems to be off the chart this year.
I realize it's been magnified by the Obama campaign at every turn, but I have grown weary of it.
They complained incessantly about Edwards and Clinton throughout the entire Democratic primary.
They have successfully created an unfair playing field.

And now we are going to get a double dose from state and local candidates.

Gggrrrrrrrrrrrr!!!!!

They should all quit watching TV and do the work they were elected to do. Maintain a safe, financially sound, forward thinking state for the people of Kansas. It will probably never occur in my lifetime, butthe good news is, the lies will end in 3 1/2 months.

Roberts claim to give a crap about Kansas values, yet his work on the most recent farm bill does even more to screw small family farms than its previous iteration.

He'll say whatever he has to say to get elected in Kansas, then continue to do the bidding of corporate America.

And Republicans in Kansas will never question what he *actually* does in the Senate as long as he claims to be pro-life, anti-gay, and most importantly, Christian.

I blame the state of politics on people's failure to engage their brains and do a little research.

kcmeridith,
This, obvioulsly comming from a Democrat, is falling on deaf ears.

I hope you now realize how many of us feel about the love affair you Dems are having with Obama.
Tell ya what! You engage your tiny brains, a little bit, and do a little research yourself
Then I am sure, given your apparent dislike for politicians who say, as you wrote:
"whatever he has to say to get elected," you will not support or vote for Obama.
In your case, I think it's just a case of, not having any credibility.
You dislike that practice comming from a member of the opposition party, but you embrace it when, "Your Messiah," it guilty of the same perceived infraction.
NO CREDIBILITY AT ALL!!!!

Gee, all the information available to you on the Web and all you can do is guess.

Tsk tsk tsk. That's not the Republican way of self-responsibility!

You must be a neocon.

I know I have people ask me what the differences are and this pretty much sums it up for everyone.

Are you a Democrat, a Republican, or a Redneck?

Here is a little test that will help you decide.

The answer can be found by posing the following question:

#You're walking down a
deserted street with your wife
and
two small children.

Suddenly, an Islamic
Terrorist with a huge knife
comes
around the corner, locks eyes with you,
screams obscenities, praises
Allah, raises the
knife, and charges at you.

You are carrying a
Kimber 1911 cal. 45 ACP, and you are an expert shot.

You have mere seconds
before he reaches you and your family. What
do
you do?

..........

THINK CAREFULLY

Democrat's
Answer :

We ll, that's not enough infor mation to answer the question!
Does
the man look poor or oppressed?
Have I ever done anything to him that
would inspire
him to attack?
Could we run away?
What does my wife
think?
What a bout the kids?
Could I possibly swing the gun like a club
and knock
the knife out of his hand?
What does the law say about
this situation?
Does the pistol have appropriate safety built into it?
Why am I carrying a loaded gun anyway, and what kind
of message
does this send to society and to my children?
Is it possible he'd be
happy with just killing me?
Does he definitely want to kill me, or would
he be
content just to wound me?
If I were to grab his knees and hold
on, could my
family get away while he was stabbing me?
Should I call
9-1-1? Why is this street so deserted?
We need to raise taxes, have
paint and weed day and
make this happi er, healthier street that
would
discourage such behavior.
This is all so confusing! I need to
debate this with
some friends for few days and try to come to a
consensus.

Your guess is completely wrong. On the day Slattery announced his run, Roberts started in with a radio ad claiming Slattery wears Gucci loafers (he doesn't - but so what if he did?) and attacking him for being a lobbyist - though Roberts' own son is a lobbyist. Slattery is talking about the issues important to Kansans (the high price of gas, the Iraq war, and the national debt) and educating voters on how Roberts' votes have brought about these problems. Roberts claimed he wouldn't attack the person - only set the record straight. The problem is that Slattery is telling the cold, hard truth and Roberts is unable to justify his stands.
