It all started two years ago, with the figure of $500 million. In a presentation on Michigan's budget problems, the nonpartisan Citizens Research Council noted that if Michigan reduced its incarceration rate to the regional average , the state would save $500 million.

Michigan enacted "Truth in Sentencing" to reduce and eliminate the Parole Board yet according to the latest budget signed by the governor for 2010 you find an increase in the correctional budget for what??? yep the parole board. Perhaps our government needs to go back to the basics and start to learn to live within their means.
