Why were they still camping out when the weather reports were available?

It reminds me of the Boy Scouts who died in MD (?) cos they camped out under some power lines during a storm.(If you're that moronic the storm in that case is probably even moot.)

Maybe a few more lawsuits will smarten up the Boy Scouts organization.

Have a little heart here, four people are dead! And we all know that weather reports are not always accurate because weather can change in an instant.

You'd think that an organization that has the motto "Be Prepared" would have some pre-prepared plan of action when camping in areas known as 'tornado alleys'.

well, if some of you that want to dog the boy scouts would have listened to the news this morning, you would have heard how the boy scouts set up a triage unit until medical help could arrive, these young boys were very prepared, they knew to run for shelter, but a tornado this deadly ripped all the buildings apart, uprooted trees, all we can do is pray for the famlies of the victims, and praise God that no others were killed, these children have to live with this fear the rest of their lives, may they all be blessed.

My heart goes out to the boy scouts, their family, friends and the state of Iowa. Contrary to what some people may think, you can NEVER be prepared for a tornado or any other mother nature workings. Some people may have made or will make stupid comments, lives were lost and can never be replaced!!!!

Being prepared means being ready to deal with what happens. There is no way to predict where a tornado will hit--they frequently skip around. Tornados are not like facing a hurricane, where you know you're in the path. It is only the few minutes before tornados strike that you really know they're coming. Please have some heart and use your God-given intelligence here.

Where would you have liked them to have gone? You need to get a clue.

They did what they could. They were prepared. Did you watch the actual news story on tv? I'm very appalled at 2 comments on here.

I watched the news and one "rescuer" who was there and got injured described running around outside to try and reach Scouts and others who were outside. So maybe when weather reports suggest severe storms with a possibility of tornados, as the weather reports clearly did, you seek shelter beforehand. This is a sensible precaution. You don't need to know that a tornado is coming directly at you to take preventive action, only that there is some risk.

Of course, even those in a solid building with a foundation can be killed in a tornado. That is a tragedy and is unavoidable. But it stands to reason the proper thing to do is seek proper shelter when there's risk.

Setting up a triage or first aid unit after the fact might be admirable, but that's not quite being prepared. That's reacting (well) after the fact.

No one addressed the story of the Scouts camping under power lines. I know this misinformed stuff all too well - my crew coaches used to keep us out on the water until the lightning storm was already upon us...not so smart. Is there some social purpose to simply not describing things as they are, or are we all supposed to live in a dream land of denial?

The comments from a few idiots on this forum regarding the Scouts preparidness don't suprise me, one creep on a related forum actually implied that the Scouts where be punished for not allowing gays to be leaders. There are some real hate mongers out there. Check out the comments on the story "Two People Killed In Tornado In Kansas"

I heard on the news this morning that the scouts would regularly have tornado drills and they had designated low areas to go to. They were also well prepared to handle emergencies. I feel that this could have been much worse without the training the scouts go through.

As far as not camping during bad weather, these camps are scheduled months ahead of time and back to back. Camps take place rain or shine because there is no room for makeups. From what I hear, there was little to no warning for the storm, so I can see nothing that could have been done differently.
