Carter's energy policy seems prescient today

What about $1.50 excise tax on newspapers and magazines. Lead by example.

Seems to me the democrats controled the nation back then. Why didn"t they listen to Jimmy? Could it be they wanted those imports as much as the other side of the aisle?

What if we insisted Detroit keep increasing CAFE levels?
We'd all be driving glorified motor scooters, trying to decide which kid(s) have to be left home on which trip and taking our chances with 18 wheelers on the highway. Sounds like freaking Utopia. |

jimmy carter was as inept as his goofy brother, Billy. carter's unbalanced sister prayed for a cure for her cancer. She died! carter prayed for his doomed policies which died as well. The Democratic Congress ran all over him because he never got his ducks in a row. His programs were short sighted, unworkable, harmful to the economy and failed to gain support of the population or the politicians. carter had already ruined Georgia when he was governor. Georgia has a water shortage today because carter got legislation passed to prohibit building a reservoir on the Flint River for all eternity. A reservoir would benefit recreation and tourism, provide drinking water for a growing central Georgia, and furnish irrigation for farm crops. Instead of conserving badly needed Georgia water behind a dam the water flows into the Gulf of Mexico. |

Sounds like we're all enjoying our $4 a gallon imported gas driving in our beautiful imported luxury vehicles over to WalMart, to load up on imported plastic crap made in China. But it's a good thing, we've had a conservative in the White House for the past 8 yrs, and for 20 out of the last 28 yrs! Things are just swell here in my little bunker. Alright, I've got to get back to home schoolin' my kids about the environmentalists.

Today's automobiles get twice the mileage of those 30 years ago. People just drive two or three times as much. The people who buy the high mileage cars today do so to keep driving all they please. The owners of low mileage vehicles are cutting back on their driving the most and saving the most.$4 gas and American consumption is only down 3%. jimmy carter's Secret Service escort drives oversized Suburbans. jimmy the gas hog!!! |

The last 7 years has seen the installation of the new LED high efficiency traffic signals nationwide. The energy savings is more than a billion dollars a year.
The same time period has seen the conversion of fluorescent lights in industry to the new super efficient variety that uses 66% less energy for the same light. The federal government program provides these lights at low cost and the old lights get junked forever. 100 million new home computers keep the powerplants working at full tilt. Who will be the first to set the example and turn their computer off for good? Most computer users have opted for DSL that keeps their computers powered up 24 hours a day even though they use them only 3 hours a day. How wasteful is that? I'll bet jimmy carter burns a lump of coal a day just to use his own computer and doesn't care who's downwind to breathe the pollution. carter is as big an energy fraud as al gore!!! |

The gasoline shortage was so bad during jimmy carter days that MoPeds became all the rage. Once the idiots who bought those death traps were killed off the rest of the population decided that fuel economy wasn't everything. Those MoPeds could hit a puddle of water and skid out of control. |

This is false. Average gas mileage went up in the late 70s and then went way down with more and more "gas guzzling" vehicles (such as SUVs) until very recently. Now we're back to where we were 30 yrs ago. Check your sources. |

"I encourage you to check out the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's annual report on the average fleet gas mileage achieved by car manufacturers. Page 7, shown above, shows the average miles per gallon for the 2007 model year. Page 4 has the most telling stat: The average fleet mpg for most cars and light trucks sold in the U.S. peaked in 1987 at 26.2. It wasn't until 2007 that the number finally rose above that, to 26.7.
In other words, 20 years of backsliding." |

My 1972 Pinto got 20 mpg. The replacement for the Pinto is the Ford Focus. Let's compare apples to apples, OK? I had a Chevy Blazer SUV in 1975 that got 8 mpg. Check your books on those models today. |

There was an article about the solar panels that jimmy carter had installed on the roof of the white house to power a single hot water heater. The panels quit working, were repaired, and quit working again. They have now been donated to a museum. What is the caption going to say about the solar panels besides? > unreliable, costly, inadaquate, and a prime example of government cost overruns!
jimmy carter's small mind was the prime reason for his failures in public life. |

Jimmy Carter is a joke and a low point in Georgia's history. Too bad Miss Lillian did not have a headache.

1 Trouble is, that joke has been messing up Georgia for 35 years now. Carter is so dumb he built a Habitat for Humanity house in a high crime Atlanta neighborhood. Home invaders broke into the house repeatedly and the terrified new homowner fled to protect her own safety. What a waste of a good house. It's yet another example of Carter's lifelong ineptitude. |

Yeah, a war that cost us $700 billion and counting, over 4000 fellow American lives, and our reputation in the world, all against a country that didn't attack us on September 11, now that's competence from YOUR president, George W Bush and YOUR vice president Dick Cheney. Give me a big freakin' break. Carter looks like a genius by comparison. Sorry to be politically incorrect with your Repugnicants, but it's the truth. |
|
Great post Bobby. Hit most of the DNC talking points but one that you missed is very important, ie: "we invaded for the OIL." You are wrong about Jimmy and a rock. Put the two side by side and the rock is still the smartest of the two!!! |
|
Of COURSE we didn't invade Iraq for the oil! I believe what Rush tells me everyday! We went to get the WMD's (oops, there were none)..... or to create a democracy in the Middle East (oops, Iraqis don't want a democracy)... or to pander to Joe Lieberman's constituency in Jerusalem...(oops, he's supposed to be a U.S. Senator)! I will take President Carter any day of the week over any of your Republican heroes ( like Richard Nixon, Gerald Ford, Ronald Reagan, George H. W. Bush, George W. Bush, John McCain....) Jimmy Carter started the whole human rights thing which still holds today. George W Bush will be remembered for Iraq, for Hurricane Katrina, for record budget deficits, for Abu Ghraib and Guantanamo Bay. What a record of abject failure. Sorry, the truth hurts sometimes but you're a big tough smart Republican, you can take it. |
