I know his wife left him, but will his girlfriend be waiting for him to get out?(and i'm not talking about the young girl he got in trouble about)

Please don't send him back to jackson county. Amazing how georgia never found out about the high schoolers he was with when he taught at Marianna High School. He is a predator and will always go after young students.Thats why they sent him to Decatur County with "made up" accolades.

I agree that what he did was wrong but the sentence was too harsh! I am glad he is out!

I dont know this teacher but I know about the case. I ask you what did he do wrong. The girl, who was at the top of her class and not stupid, was of legal age. She wanted it just like he did, and it would have continued if her mom would not have found those text messages. DID HE RAPE HER NO! DID SHE RAPE HIM NO!. IF she would have been under the legal age of consent, then yes he deserves to be in prison. Fact of the matter she wasnt. Before some moron asked, "what if that was your daughter" well I have daughters, one of which graduated with the young lsdy caught in the middle of this. I would be not to happy about her, but I would not ruin a person because a of descision that 2 CONSENTING ADULTS MADE!

I have to disagree with you. He was supposed to be a professional teaching students about English Language Arts. Professionally, he should have not participated in sexual activities with one of his students. He was supposed to be a role model to children, not a boyfriend. Its not acceptable. I do agree with you that she was not a child but an adolescent when the incident happened and should be accountable for her own actions. He was also married and his child was in school. Imagine the embarrassment and schock his child and wife felt because of the public humiliation. He was very selfish! What he did was very wrong - Morally and Ethically! Now, It was believed what he did was wrong legally and it would have been if the relationship had not been consentual. The Georgia Legislature will now re-write the law to make his actions illegal as they were intened by legislatures to begin with. NOW! What he did was wrong - but I feel that his sentence was too harsh! 20 years for something like this is ridiculous! I am glad he got a break and he is out!

What he did was wrong morally and ethically I agree. However, he should have never gone to prison if a 17 year old girl was consenting. We cannot send adulterers to jail because it is morally and ethically wrong. We cannot send people to jail for humiliating their children. If that were the case then we better start building a lot more jails because just about everyone has been humiliated at some point by their parents.

This was not the first time he had been in a relationship with a student, there were AT LEAST two more, if not more. If he had not been sent to prison, there is no telling how many there would have been since then. At some point he had to be stopped and I say "great job" to this girl's mother for putting a stop to it. It is not just about humiliating his family, it is also about teaching them (meaning his two daughters and son) that this is acceptable behavior.

DUH, isnt that what I just said! After the Georgia General Assembly re-write the law it will be illegal (Consent will not be a defense). He is fortunate that there was a defect in the writing of the old law or he would still be in the slammer.

Another thing....Tommy Howell married a former student as did the tennis teacher (forgot his name)- the only difference was they weren't already married AND the parents didn't mind...

Pauncho Hufstetlers wife was his student.(This was recent too!)
Steve Bench was a football coach when Glennie Bench was a cheerleader.
I'm sure there are others! This isn't something that doesn't happen in Decatur County. If anything, this just shows that Whitehead wasn't part of the good ole boy system. Who you know is a big thing, especially here.

Less that 20 minutes? Thats makes no sense whatsoever. He deserved to get out, and, if your Daughter wanted it, it would be of no discussion. She and He are both of legal age.
