As Gov. Charlie Crist signed the Florida Legislature's controversial guns-to-work bill into law Tuesday, business interests vowed to take the fight to a new arena: the courtroom.

"Fundamentally, this has never been about guns for us," the chamber's Adam Babbington said. "This is about who can decide what goes on private property, the property owner or government."

Mr Babbington obviously does not comprehend that it is not the government itself that makes this decision. The "fundamental" issue here is what holds a higher threshold; the 2nd amendment to the Constitution or the business property owner restrictions on what is already public access.

I know the editorial board of the Sun Sentinel has never read the constitution past the first amaendment but it now appears obvious that there are many more out there who are ignorant of what it says.

This law says a bussiness cannot ban a legaly owned anything from their parking lot, if you think a felon or any one else banned by law from having a firearm from disobeying a private compny's rule if they are already breaking a federal law you are either truly stupid or insane. Also if someone were planning an attack they would likewise show no regard for these rules. Look at how obediantly and clearly these rules were followed at the schools that have suffered from deranged inivduals, if one student had possesd a legal firearm, maybe some of these kids would still be alive

Huh, The Florida Chamber of Commerce.
They are using my dues to pay to fight my Constitutional rights? Maybe I should cancel my membership. It is pretty much a useless expense anyway. I'm going to write them a letter and cancel my membership today.

How are they going to know if you have firearms or any other "restricted" items in your vehicle? No guns allowed, but it's O.K. if you want to spend your lunch break in your van watching porn movies, or maybe you like to read the bible but the company policy is against religion. When are they going to censor employee bumper stickers? How about we are an American company therefore American automobile parking only.Let freedom live!

So, it is fair to keep employees from being able to protect themselves but it is OK for customers to park their cars in the parking lot and are able to carry a gun. Customers can but employees can't. How is that fair? either it is one way or the other but according to our constitution, everyone should have the same rights and should be able to bear arms. I agree that it should be left in the car and not in the office but your car is your domain.

If a judge strikes this down they should pass a law giving employees to right to sue for millions if they are injured as a result of being denied their right to keep their gun on their person at a workplace or any other business.

If a business is going to deny employees the right to defend themselves (for example an abused woman who leaves her husband and buys a gun to protect herself) then that business has assumed the responsibility to protect them.

Furthermore the HR manager and owners should be held criminally liable and jailed of they refuse to allow an employee the right to protect themselves and an employee is harmed

Ironic that they did not add post offices to the exempt list. Guess this legalizes "goin' postal".

How many more workplace/school campus murders...by people who legally had a right to bear arms...do we need before we say "enough is enough"..!!??

10, 100, 1,000...what's your number?

The business community as a whole is not against this legislation, but rather just the businesses that signed on with their money to oppose it. That said, if these particular businesses are willing to guarantee safe travel for their employees from the time they walk out their front doors until the time they arrive home then I'll join them in their fight. But they can't and they won't. Employees are not their chattel. Gun ownership and the right of self defense is a natural right and one not subject to the whims of government or business.

Um Chuckie,

Might I have your ear for a moment? The term "Going Postal" came about from employees with the US Postal Service going off the deep end and using their guns within the hollowed halls of US Post Offices. The shot their co-workers! You will forever now be credited with creating the term "Going to Work"; this will be used to describe the actions of all employees who now chose to exercise their freedom to bring their guns to work when they shoot their co-workers for talking to loud. A normal, rational person does not need a gun at work. If they felt that they did one, then they should find a safer place of employment in the first place.

Charlie, I wish I could get my vote for you back!!!!!!!!!!

So Random, according to your logic averyone who has a CWP and keeps a firearm in their vehicle will begin shooting their fellow employees and patrons. You have the same mind set as all the other anti-second amendment crowd. You take the smallest percentage of outlying statistics and make it the norm. That's just nuts.

I just know you are voting for B. Hussein Obama.

The law is misrepresented. It is NOT a law allowing you to bring your firearm into the workplace. It IS a law to prevent employers from forbidding LEGAL owners from having their legally owned firearm in a LOCKED car.

Has it occurred to you that the sort of person intent in "shooting up" a place will do so regardless of the law?

the fear mongering from the anti gunners is "mouth frothing" as usual...be afraid very afraid they cry...they cry "now a disgruntled person can shoot up their workplace without having to go home to get a gun"...and that is absurd...but they also predicted mass violence over "fender benders" after the shall issue was passed and we all can see that didn't happen...they were against castle doctrine (a.k.a. stand your ground) saying it would mean the wild west but that hasn't happened either...this is a victory for individual freedom and you can "judge shop" all you want as this law will stand...but more important is the anomaly of the left siding with corporations...and the silence of those that whine about alleged "lost rights" of individuals under the patriot act is deafening

What a bunch of idiots. Don't they know that having honest, law abiding and armed citizens will help curtail crime? Thank you Gov. Crist for doing at least one thing right during your term. No, if you would legalize a bounty on insurance underwriters and state legislators...
