Crist not returning to a happy place

it just goes to prove that he is your typical republican that says lowering taxes is the cure all to everything. the opposite is true, not only are we losing services, but all local taxes are being raised to make up for the shortfall. if we keep the legislature a republican majority we will continue to see the same thing. how convenient for Crist getting married, is he looking to be vp? I wonder he has been a big disappointment. the only worse governor was Jeb Bush, because his politics are very extreme & dangerous

We can only wish the Governor the best of birthdays. Unfortunately, things look gloomier than ever in the sunshine state. His patronizing to certain groups of individuals & lack of foresight will be his own undoing.

Governor Crist has little or no control over the present economic situation in Florida. I agree we have a deepening crises and he should be working his butt of to solve what problems he can, but Florida is dropping into an economic hole that could last 10 years.

Our economy has been based on growth, i.e. people from up north or some other states moving here, either retirees or working folk. Usually in order to do that they have to sell their house back home, then they than move here and are amazed at how cheap the real estate is. They buy a house equal to or better than what they sold and often have money left over.

That’s all behind us now as Florida real estate values soared, the real estate bubble popped and now few houses are being sold anywhere, subsequently our growth is plummeting. If you can’t sell your house in Ohio, you’re not moving here.

Think about it. We have no real economic base. Our economy has been based on tourism and growth, both segments that are in big trouble. This was put in motion before Crist, he can’t solve the problem and he can do little to fix things.

In the next 3 years Florida will lose population, our economy will stagnate and real estate prices will drop 50% or more from the 4th Q of 2005 peak. It’s already happening. Broward County lost population in 2007. School enrollments began to decline in 2006 and will continue to do so.

We forgot who we are or perhaps we never realized. Working families can’t some here and buy a $400,000 house. The median house has to line up with the median income. I could go on all day but Google Florida school enrollments and Florida’s population. Look up United Van Lines and American Van Lines and see how many people they moved out of Florida vs. how many they moved in. Read their annual population trends reports.

I live in Ocala and have a website that focuses on Ocala/Marion County’s real estate as well as Florida in general. www.ocalamarionhousinginfo.com . I have a lot of Florida data there.

The scary part is that we are only at the beginning.

It was nice having the brother of Bush in Tallahasee. Lots of benefits came Floridas way. But with this Bozo and the extreme liklihood that Dems will win the whitehouse, Florida is in for a ruff time.

Well, you're getting your way now and look what's happening to your state and economy. Restaurants closing their doors. Store closing. When was the last time you went to Mizner Park? It's a disaster area now. Half the stores are closed. No new house sales and resales down to a crawl. Foreclosures everywhere the eye can see.
You asked for it and you got it. You'd better pray for those retirees and snowbirds to start coming back and clogging your roads and filling your restaurants. That's the only way you're going to survive.
