Just another way that the Christian right is taking over America, and spreading their message of hate. America since Bush has catered to the right is becoming less and less free. Won't be long until some other country will try to help free us.

In WV,

No children may attend school with their breath smelling of "wild onions.

Unmarried couple who live together and "lewdly associate" with one another may face up to a year in prison.

When a railroad passes within 1 mile of a community of 100 or more people in it, they must build a station and stop there regularly to pick up and drop off passengers.

Any person who commits adultery shall be fined at least twenty dollars.

It is legal for a male to have sex with an animal as long as it does not exceed 40 lbs.

A tax of 1 cent is levied for every 16 and 9 ounces of coke sold in a store.

A person may be placed in jail for up to six months for making fun of someone who does not accept a challege.

It is illegal to snooze on a train.A person may not hold public office if he or she has ever participated in a duel.

For each act of public swearing a person shall be fined one dollar.

According to the state constitution, it is unlawful for anyone to own a red or a black flag.

If you wear a hat inside a theater, you may be fined.

Roadkill may be taken home for supper.

Whistling underwater is prohibited.

Oh, so many laws for sinners and onion eaters. My goodness. Whistling underwater? Why in the world??? Are any of these actually enforced? Instead of taking expensive vacations and trying to come up with all of these great prohibitive laws, why don't they look at the books and remove the outdated, obsolete and just plain silly ones?

When were the laws passed? I think that you will find that most of these laws were passed many years ago. So sorry Mr. Smith its not the current "christian right taking over America" - God forbid we should have morals.

The point of my post was to show that each state has it's own set of screwy laws.

And not even tax benefits sometimes. I took on a tax burden when I married - he's a business owner and instead of my old refund check we pay, pay, pay! Not fun.

Yes, I know what you were saying. I was just interested in whether or not you knew more about them, such as how old they were and were they enforced?

No, I don't. I just did a quick google search and came up with those. I used WV's laws because this is a WV forum. BTW, I was stationed in North Dakota for 18 years and I think the people there are pretty great.
just wondering

I've been a shacky also, but from a Christian pov I dont recommend it. I just think it is so silly for people to go all out and have a major production when they do decide to get married. I will buy my friends and family a house warming gift when they move in together/get married but I wont buy them another gift if they live togather and then have a blow out wedding. I will go to the wedding but not the reception... I dont believe in eating their food if you didnt bring a gift. Just my pov.

There are only 4 states which have this archaic law on the book. WV is one of them. The government needs to stay out of people's bedrooms.
