DC residents can start applying for handgun permits after 32-ye...

Why should the process take so long? If they are a law-abiding citizen with no record, then the process should only take the 5 minutes for the police officer to look them up on the NCIC database.

what an idiot,sad really
he should have just shot up the place oh yeah, forgot the gun idiot |

No sir, you are the idiot. Mr. Heller legally fought the bureaucrats for his rights. It's a sad state of affairs in D.C. that they can't seem to understand the difference between a citizen and a criminal thug.

Thirty thousand Americans die every year from handgun fire...that's over 80 people a day! You're not fighting the British redcoats with muskets anymore (justification for the constitutional right to bear arms); you're killing fellow Americans. And you call that "civilized"? The moronic argument that "guns don't kill people...people do"
is absurd. If you people didn't have the guns, you'd have to kill others with a slingshot or knife, which takes a little longer and is far less damaging. So, go ahead, Washingtonians...get your guns and play sheriff. Thank Zeus I live in a country that doesn't allow handguns in the hands of whackos! |

Chesapeake s___!
Brilliant retort. As a matter of fact, it IS my business. You see, I fly into the USA's larger cities (Philly, NYC, D.C. Chicago, L.A.) quite often. And, while not being paranoid, I must say that each time I touch down in one of your gun-slingin' towns, I wonder whether the bullet has my name on it. Probably not... you guys can't spell English correctly, not to mention French. |

Gee, I have wonder what the underscores stand for. We all know how polite you French folk are, so it can't be anything derogatory, can it? In any case, you are a visitor to our country and have no business dictating your desires and opinions upon us. No law abiding citizen is going to harm you, but if you meander into any of the bad areas of the cities you visit you may have a problem. I really don't understand your last comment, but I'll match credentials with you any day. Freedom Fries anyone? |
|
Chesapeake: Who said that I am a "visitor" to your country? False assumption. I'm an American who prefers to live in France. As for credentials, how about a Purple Heart and the Navy Cross I was awarded as a naval officer during the Viet Nam War? How about my PhD from the University of Maryland? How about my 30 peer-reviewed scientific publications? ETC. Get serious! As for your not understanding my last comment in the previous post, I'm not surprised. It's simple. Fifty percent of Americans can spell or read above the level of an eighth grader. Statistically, the chances are 50-50 that you're one of them.
|
|
The majority of your statistic is comprised of suicides, murders, lawful homicide in self defense, and accidental deaths. Suicides comprise approximately 56% of your statistic, and guns do not cause suicides. According to the FBI's Uniform Crime Report 14,990 people were murdered with a firearm in 2006, see link below. The majority of our nation's violent crime is the result of the illegal drug trade, not because lawful citizens can own guns. http://www.fbi.gov/ucr/cius2006/offenses/expa... |
|
Correction from my post above: 10,177 were murdered with a firearm. Sorry for the mistake |

Thank you for your service during the Vietnam war, I'll admit you guys got a rought deal by the American populace at the time. Considering that you were wounded, I can understand why you may prefer to live in France. An interesting thing though is that a friend of my daughter recently spent a couple of years studying in France and she hated it. She was working on her PHD, is very intelligent and ultra liberal, so I wonder why she hated it so much? Anyway, I digress. I'll concede that your educational accomplishments are slightly higher than mine, but I also hold technical certifications for the field I am in. Not to give away too much personal information, I am employed within the UM system. The point you don't want to see is that law abiding citizens want the abilty to defend themselves against the rampant crime going on within the US, particularly the cities. You have every right to move away from this if that is what you deem best for yourself, but most of us love our country and wish to keep our freedoms. |
You're all wackos that's why. Didn't your ancesters b-head some old Queen? |

Chesapeake his nose is so far up in the air..... he sounds just like the hauty John Kerry who served in Viet Nam. |

I tend to agree, but I lived through that era and just missed going to Nam by a year or two. I was fortunate and had a really high number in the draft lottery. I had some friends that served in Nam, including one in Special Forces. They were not treated right (by a long shot) when they returned, so I'll give this guy some leeway. If he's fabricating, I'll just have to say he got one over on me. |
|
THE REASON FOR THE LOW TURN OUT IS THAT ALL OF THE HONEST PEOPLE DO NOT HAVE HAND GUNS. DC IS FULL OF ILLEGAL HAND GUNS AND THESE WILL NEVER BE REGISTERED.
|
|
I'm a year or two younger, the draft was abolished when I was 16. I served anyway for 7 years. |

Thanks for your service to this nation. It was a strange time back then. Since I wasn't drafted, I headed off to college. I often think I missed an important experience in life, but who's to say what was best? |

Chesapeake spirit:
I owe you an apology. Your last two posts were cogent, and I respect your desire to protect your family and yourself. But why not choose a shotgun instead? It's far more effective at close range, and if it's stolen it won't be used by the thugs. By the by, I'm not fabricating anything about my service and academic records. I have no idea why the friend of your daughter hates France. France is the number one tourist destination in the world, and, having lived here for the past 25 years, I can understand why Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt have decided to raise their kids here. Free university education, free medical care, low crime rate, great food and wine, magnificent countryside, etc. etc. Out. |
