Unfortunately it may be too late now, but in states like Maine, as in California, the more gay marriages there are before voters overturn a state law, the more married gay couples there will be after the repeal goes into effect. That situation bodes well for a later change, since I can't fathom how a democracy can let some gay couple remain married but deny that right to all who are not married.

Skiri, No marriages happened in Maine. The latest polling is showing a swing towards the 'no', which upholds the law. The PPP poll was based on a flawed model. A lot of people are showing up to vote, especially young voters who are coming in under the 'No on 1' banner. |

Ummm.....the polls are still open in Maine. The votes haven't been counted. |

1 Despite repeated pleas for assistance from this community from the start of the campaign, he chose to ignore every opportunity to grant us such relief. At the recent Human Rights Campaign dinner he never said the word "Maine" once. The most we were able to get out of the White House office of communications was that he was opposed to such efforts. Try weaving that into a powerful ad or robo-calling! However, practicing benign neglect was not the end of it. This past week, Eric Holder, the Attorney General of the United States in the state of Maine said that this administration had no position on the ballot measure. Read that sentence again carefully. Our nation's chief law enforcement officer and the president's hand picked choice said that the issue was just not that important to this administration! Now don't be fooled by any rhetoric that presidents don't take stands on such issues. Going back as far as President Carter when he opposed Proposition Six, they have taken such stands. http://www.davidmixner.com/2009/11/maine-obam... |

We reported late yesterday that the DNC's Organizing for America (formerly Obama for America) was emailing Mainers a generic "get out the vote" message that said nothing about the various ballot measures at play in the state, including the attempt to repeal the right of gay couples to marry - the biggest issue in the state at the moment, and the biggest gay rights issue in the country being voted on today (not to diminish the very important election in Washington state). We asked at the time why the DNC and OFA weren't telling Mainers what they'd be voting on, and even better, urging them to vote "no" on the anti-gay referendum.
Since that time, another Mainer came forward and said that she was sent an email from OFA asking her to make phone calls to New Jersey voters to support Jon Corzine's re-election bid in that state. Nothing in the email she received asked her to do anything in her own state, such as vote "no" on 1. In response to our stories, the DNC denied that they were contacting Mainers and asking them to help out in other states. Well, a second Mainer has now stepped forward and produced evidence that he too was contacted by the DNC's OFA, and that he too was asked to weigh in on the New Jersey race rather than help defeat the anti-gay referendum in his own state. http://gay.americablog.com/2009/11/2nd-mainer... |

I think accusing someone of "rabble rousing" just because you disagree with them is disrespectful and immature. If you would like to counter his arguments with any actual facts please feel free. |

Slowly but surely people seem to be coming around. If you read the comments on here, it is the same 2 or 3 people that will defend Obama regardless of any facts. I think by the end, the only gay people who will be supporting Obama will be Joe Solmonese and the rest of the "corporate gays". Obama is basically using a disinformation campaign and those are ultimately self defeating. |
