"The point of asking is so landlords can protect their financial assets from someone who is more likely to flee the country," Fuller said.
In other words, the immigrant is capable of taking the building with him when the rent is due?

Don't worry, this is the last "right" they will ever get in California.

Let me get this straight....

A landlord cannot ask a prospective tenant if he is in the United States illegally..? That is like saying, It is against the Law for you to ask a guy if he is selling dope out his home...

What's the difference they are both breaking the law daily....

My God what was he thinking when he signed this...? I think this may go to the supreme court on freedom of speach restrictions. How do you make it illegal to ask a question...?

Didn't the Homeless in San Francisco get a law like that struck down because begging for money was a violation of their freedom of speach rights?

No, but he can sell the stove and refrigerator and the hot water heater before he runs back to Mexico.... and the Landlord can't get a judgment against the tenant for damages...

B- I was really surprised that the Governor signed Bill 976. Many was thinking he would Veto it. He has yet made a statement as to why he signed it. Even Roy Asburn had expressed a no on it. Actually from what I heard the law is in conflict with Federal housing laws. Hey we need you in "Stop Illegal Aliens, it's about time". Topic. Got a couple of idiots Jose and Juan that keep commenting on things other than the topic. Thanks

One could almost say that by making it illegal to check and see if a person is a criminal, is in and of itself an act that perpetuates criminal activity.

Why would He even want to start down that path.....?

What's next, you can't ask School Teachers if they are child molesters before you hire them.(it's not like we are going to get honest answers from either group who are)

I would expect that there may be other ways to gather background information for landlords. Third party companies could provide that information by not specifically asking the prospective tenant the question. A Landlord could require fingerprinting background check and such.

I didnt know about this bill til just right now! I tell ya, somedays he signs good stuff and it makes all great sense, then out of the blue, you see junk like this!

Why do Illegals have any rights here? I can see folks with like a 3 month visa (just visiting pass) but at that point they are still not a citizen, but at least here legally!

I wonder why he hasnt received a flood of letters and emails ranting over this..I bet if he got tackled, he might re-think what he is doing to our state...without our vote on things!

As for the landlord not being able to ASK him legally if he is an american...if they cant cough up a Valid DL or Valid ID or a SS number issued to them, they most likely would not get the apartment I was renting out! I think any property owner should be able to ask any questions how ever crass they may be if it means protecting their land or other residents!!

Oh he is just silly! Its not like we are anti Immigrants...that would be dumb, seeing as just about ALL of our families have some sort of Immigrant! Heck HE IS! He really needs to protect the laws we have in place, that have been there for ages...I seriously doubt we will 'crash' if we deport them!! If they all think that, then its sad that they do not give us Americans more credit!

If anything, we will have better lawns and gardens, and the Americans can again, take pride in the farmland and Ranches...Maybe our unemployment will go down, as there will be jobs for the people who have a right to work here!!

I have some thing that's bugging me about all the Government has done for the illegalls here in my town. They have the rights too hang out where ever they choose waiting for some one to pick them up for the day to do cheap labor. What i don't understand is why some of our lazy Americans can just sit on their duffs and just collect Government monies. When they are able to work. Why don't we have some kind of program that puts these people to work cleaning off littered Highways and streets. And do the work that these illigal immagrents do here such as constrution or whatever. It really nerves to so much how our Government just has abandoned us Us Citizens for foreingers. I don't belive there's such a thing as border control at all. If there was then how come most of my town is Spanish in paticular? And it appears they seem too get just what they want. Homes, cars ect.. I see so many people whom have lived here for so many years having to sell their homes and move with family members. I see more and more homeless every day. I have nothing against people having the right to a decent life don't get me wrong here, but do it they right way. Stop walking on other people to get what you want. Don't treat me like trash in my own country. Or that i am nothing because i don't have what you have. Maybe if i housed illegalls i could pay a large morgage and wouldn't have to worry that i may become homeless soon because my Government can't seem too help me in my hour of need, but puts hands out to strangers. There are so many illegalls in my area alone i am sure, but i wouldn't try too hurt some one on purpose. I do have a heart and i do have some compassion. I just don't like being treated unfairly. I have lost faith in our Government and all it stands for. And i feel a landlord should have the right to know whom is living on his property. You cannot be too carefull at all these days with anyone. No matter whom they are!

Whether it be state government or federal government or even city government, US citizens are being sold down the river and are not being paid attention to at all. These polititions will do just what they want now matter what the people want. It is time for the people to stand up to their city, state, and federal government. If we do not we deserve everything that we get. People think well they can throw us in jail. Not if enough people will stand arm in arm against this crap they can't throw all of the US citizens in jail. Wake up people and see what is happening around you before it is to late and it is just about to late now.

One more thing talking on these forums will never change one little thing. The US citizen has to take to the street and let the government know they mean business once and for all.

This is a misreport. No State may make a law that is in direct conflict with federal law. We have a federal law regarding aiding and abetting illegal aliens.

The bill the Governor signed was to restrict cities/towns from _creating legislation_ requiring landlords check immigration status. The Governor does not possess the power to keep landlords from checking the immigration status of their tenants and thus, prevent breaking federal law of aiding and abetting illegal aliens. In short, landlords have free reign to ask for proof of legal occupancy in the US and the only thing they need be careful about is being sure they ask ALL current and prospective tenants to avoid and discrimination lawsuits. Establish and show a pattern of policy to ask for proof from everyone and landlords are in the clear, abiding by all laws, and help us all in doing so.

More Members Sign Onto SAVE Act

Rep. Heath Shuler’s (D-N.C.) SAVE Act (Secure America with Verification Enforcement [H.R. 4088]) now has 122 bipartisan signers. The SAVE Act will require all employers to use the electronic verification system to keep illegal aliens out of U.S. jobs.

Are you ready for this!

TB, which was formerly endemic ONLY to Mexico, crossed over the borders inside the bodies of illegal aliens.

Tuberculosis, five years ago, was almost non-existent in the USA. Last week, a school in Sebewaing, Michigan reported 30 children and four teachers had tested positive for tuberculosis infections. Michigan supports a large Latin illegal alien population that migrated from Mexico. In the past four years, 16,000 cases of multi drug resistant (MDR) TB, which was formerly endemic ONLY to Mexico, crossed over the borders inside the bodies of illegal aliens. These adults and their children have spread out across the country to work in fast foods and harvesting. Another outbreak occurred in Austin, Minnesota where eight police officers tested positive for tuberculosis. A similar outbreak occurred in Portland, Maine last week with 28 testing positive for tuberculosis.
