1 With regards to the issue of CPR - yes, although it is currently a requirement in the academy, was it when many of Pinal's officers were enrolled. When I was CPR certified it had a recertification deadline to remain active and current, have all the officers in Pinal County been recertified. I read that some of you state Vasques as having integrity, yet he has even admitted to plagerizing. It was one thing to reference someone else's work to emphasize a point and give recognition than to take that work as display it as your own seek recognition for yourself. If I plagerized in college, I would have been kicked out of class and perhaps the college itself. I haven't met either canidate, and I am eager to know more about both, but integrity says a lot. Without it, you can't expect people to trust you or the position you hold. |

Arsenl of guns, hmm I looked at expendetures for the Sheriff's office and didn't see an arsenal of guns. I saw they purchased new weapons for the many positions Sheriff Vasquez requested from the Board of Supervisors. Suicides in the jail. Where are you getting this information from. |

Nor does the republican leadership have the interest of the county. the only interest the republican leadership has is to get anyone into a county seat.

it's hard to believe the sheriffs election would have partisan alignments- it shouldn't be about which political party the guy(or girl) is from, it's how much exp. in law enforcement that counts.

Regarding the "plagiarism" issue; at least Sheriff Vasquez did not lie about it.
He was approached on the subject by a local news outlet and he readily admitted that he used "cut and paste" while compiling public safety tips for the citizens of the county. He was not submitting an academic paper for grade, nor was he receiving monetary compensation for a journalism outlet. He was simply, if I may be so bold, "writing safety tip letters to his friends" in his monthly Letters to the Citizens. Vasquez is a hard working cop trying to help out those he serves, not attempting to obtain a Nobel Prize in literature. News Flash, Babeu, the constituents of Pinal County appreciate the safety tips. They don’t care if there were not any footnotes. This has also backfired on Babeu causing many, many people to cringe in distaste at his blatant and overwhelming negative campaign tactics. But, when you do not have a record of accomplishments to present to the voters, you have no choice but to attack, right? Babeu has also caused many to turn away from him by using these negative tactics. Sharp, intelligent and hard working deputies, detention officers, civilian support staff, as well as their family and friends; do not appreciate being referred to as Mayberry by this ambitious youngster. Babeu allows his ego to override maturity and respect on a fairly consistent basis. Just another indicator of his youth and inexperience. Do we really want someone like this leading the largest law enforcement agency in the county? I don't. |

I could not agree more, Jassy, regarding partisan alignments.
The sheriff does not write law, vote on it, or establish tax rates, building codes, etc. This is what legislators, senators, representatives, governors, et al, are there for. The sheriff enforces the existing laws by providing public safety and maintaining the county jail. You are also absolutely correct regarding experience. You do not hear from Babeu regarding law enforcement executive managerial experience. There is a very good reason for this; HE HAS NONE. He is a rookie patrolman, with less than five years actual experience. He has never supervised so much as a squad of officers and still relies on senior officers and sergeants to instruct him on how to properly do the job. He would not even qualify for the position of a command officer or other executive leadership positions within professional police departments. Just a cursory research of Babeu, utilizing the internet, will support the contention he is a professional politician with self-serving objectives. Vasquez, on the other hand, has approximately 32 years law enforcement experience, over half of that as a police supervisor or executive manager. He has proven he is dedicated to the law enforcement career field. And regardless of what his opponent erroneously attempts to portray, Sheriff Chris Vasquez has proven his managerial vision and skills by the numerous improvements in public safety by the Pinal County Sheriff’s Office under his leadership. He has received national recognition and is a role model for other progressive agencies, especially regarding an active problem solving partnership between the PCSO and those they serve. It is easy enough to check on. Vasquez is a cop, not a politician, having served as a patrolman, detective, sergeant, lieutenant, commander, chief deputy and sheriff. The other guy is a politician, trying to learn to be a cop. As much as Babeu certainly must hate it, there are many Republicans who are going to vote for Sheriff Chris Vasquez. I suspect the same from the Democrats and Independents. The sheriff’s election should be about experience and capabilities, not voting down the party line. I believe Sheriff Vasquez will win this election and remain in office. I predict Babeu, as is his historical track record, will continue with his personal political ambitions and run for some other office to satisfy his ego. You folks back in the North Adams/Berkshire County area know exactly what I am referring to. |

Does anyone know how Vasquez or Babeu compare when it comes to the care and treatment of the inmates. A friend of mine (who is a detention officer for Pinal) classifies Vasquez as a 'hug a thug'. That's not the type of Sheriff I am looking for. What are Paul's standards? Any one know?

When does this election take place so we can see what all the results are of this waste of time and move on?
