Years ago I heard in a lecture by an AHCCCS official that their funds were being exhausted by older retirees moving in from Michigan, etc., to take advantage of the climate, lower cost of living, and state health care system.

Many came here and immediately got into costly services (full-time home care, long-term hospital elder-care, etc) that disproportinately drained funds in something like a 20:1 ratio (the '1' being non-elderly clients.

So there's the wall; anybody want to do some writing on it?

It would be interesting to see the break down of users. I thought that retirees (65 and over) got Medicare. Using a scanner, I have heard numerous calls for ambulance service to the ER for childern with ear aches, and other common illnesses from the low income housing facilities. Your ratio seems high.

As I said, "years ago." I don't know what the ratio is today. According to that AHCCCS official, oldsters were buying property, often shifting their remaining assets into relatives or others' hands, and then declaring indigency. Medicare paid only a portion of the medical expenses. For 'indigents,' what wasn't covered by Medicare was paid by the state.

I'm surprised that you can get such detailed medical information as "Ear aches and other common illnesses" by scanning ambulance dispatches. Is this true, or is it that you want to point your finger at those living in "Low income housing facilities"?

Where, in Bisbee, are these 'low income housing facilities? Or do you - to check against your scanner info - keep a list of homes rented under Section 8?

Whatever the current ratio is, if you're curious you should do a little investigation beyond just relying on what you might hear on your scanner.

I'm sure we all look forward on any information you can provide.

Sounds like you voted Jan Brewer and support her "scorched earth" policies...

The dispatchers would give information such as "juvenile with an ear ache" or other generic information.
The low income housing I am aware of is apartments. Two cater to famlies and seniors, and one to adults. I do not know which homes fall under section 8.
I do know that my insurance has a co-pay for both ambulance service and emergency room services (combined about $250 per trip)so I do not use those services indiscriminately, and certainly not for minor ailments, and would assume that calls for minor ailments would be from someone either rich or not responsible for the bill.
Getting medical demographics or other related facts on this topic is difficult due to political correctness.

Huh? you are so right. You've got to be cruel to be kind . It's the old folks alright . Kill them off ,
right after they pay their taxes. Make it look like an epidemic that has struck among all the old codgers. NBC can run the special . What a shame,
Granny was a nice old "soul" . But life MUST go on.
And you young folks must pick up the pieces.
Remember , they did things a little differently,
So you should set a whole new course . Go through
the left quadrant and explore the 15th section.
Mr.Huh , Make it happen !

Listening to the BFD dispatch is one of the best ways to find out on what's going on in Bisbee. Unfortunately, the Bisbee police use digital radios so you can't listen to their calls without spending $400 for a high-end scanner. Anybody want to share their fave frequencies for the area? Post 'em here!

Huh, A few paragraphs ago you were wanting to kill
the old sick people and now you want to do away with
all the lawyers. At least you are trying to thin out the population. There are a few others you can add to the list. Fat politicians , ugly politicians,
greedy politicians, lying politicians , arrogant
politicians, crooked politicians, lazy politicians.
Did I miss any ? work on those next and we will
reevaluate the " health " of America.

The Native Americans had a way of offing the old and feeble.
Read "People of the Blue Water"

The old were isolated, physically contained, clothing was minimal even in cold weather and their rations were cut. Adios mom and dad!

Perhaps our friend from Paradise prefers that health industry charges (and profits) continue escalating out of proportion to average income growth, health insurers continue profiting on those who are healthy while purging those who present a risk of being not, and the gaps widens as an increasingly shameful proportion of Americans slip through the floorboards of health care.

While the health care industry presents to Wall Street investors nothing more than profit potential, Mr Paradise would have us believe that we should have confidence in these investors, and eschew government regulation designed to curb them from draining the populace like vampires.

My guess is that he can afford to profess such beliefs because he is employed in the health industry, he has financial investments in the health industry, or he smugly feels that since own ass is securely covered, why should he have the sense of social responsibility to give a damn about those whose aren't.

Obama Care will force many hospitals to close

http://wyliberty.org/commentary/rural-wyoming...

Will many of our hospitals be able to survive ObamaCare?
President Obama signed into law what will surely be known as one of the worst pieces of public policy in American history. His big-government takeover of America’s healthcare system passed against the will of many Americans. It marks a loss for liberty and a victory for greater government control.
