Hall fights for public breast-feeding

Who is this wacko who:

1. Wants to call him/herself "god"

2. Thinks others are against breastfeeding

3. Wants to yell at us by using all caps.

He/she needs to sit down and shut up.

Why would anyone care about a woman breast feeding in public in the first place?

Too many people spend too much time minding other people's business and not nearly enough minding their own, which is why we have so much government in our faces.

Let's get back to our founding father's intent, enforce the Constitution instead of spending so much time and effort in changing it in the courts and let people live their lives free of government intervention and supervision.

Only in America do we have controversy over breast feeding in public and handicap parking in front of an ice skating rink. One makes as much sense as the other.

Some ladies do BF and find it easy some ladies can't because at least 1-in-100,000 strugle to get milk to their breast. My mums mum found it had to BF all twelve of her kids which they since now grown up and had their own kids and their kids have got kids to.

I don't see why this is an issue, either. As long as her boobs aren't hanging out on display, who cares? What a lot of folks don't understand is, it hurts to hold it in, and you start to leak, too. Then you have the issue of a crying baby. And if you don't nurse, the ability to continue to do so will go away.
So, WTF? Who are the people fighting this? Men?

Yeah, plus, if someone's breast feeding in public, we guys can see some side boob!!!

To be honest, when my baby cries and I am in a public place, first I worry about getting her what she needs, then I cover up. I was very conservative and tried to hide what I was doing when my son nursed, but after having security follow me around stores a couple times, I just do what I have to do.
I have never seen a security officer turn away more quickly in my life! lol.

People who are worried about this are almost exclusively men who either 1. have never seen a breat and 2. are questioning their sexuality. I have breastfed in public at least 200 times and will continue to do so no matter who says what.

Kentucky just this year passed a new law that makes public breastfeeding legal and makes it illlegal to interfer with a mother breastfeeding. Here is a link to the new law if anyone is interested. It is a pdf file and can be printed and sent to your local representative/senators. As backwards as people my see kentuckians, this is one peice of legislation that puts us way ahead of many states. Breast feeding is very very beneficial to the child and no one should be rediculed nor subject to harassment from laws or narrow minded people. That is why the second and third paragraph of this law is so important.

There are absolutely great reasons for breastfeeding as I did it myself and believe that it's the healthier alternative for mother and baby; not may people will dispute that. However, there are degrees to public breastfeeding. Most public places have bathrooms or other areas that may be used for such a purpose. I used a few myself. Also, why are these mothers having their infants out and about all day? Doctors reccommend keeping the babies at home for the first month to avoid infection and disease as their immune systems are not fully functioning. After the first month or so the babies only need to feed about every four hours or so. My point is-public breastfeeding is usually rarely needed. It is easily scheduled around and if there should be an instance where it is necessary, an accomidating private area is usually available. Discreet nursing mothers are great but I don't want to see nipples at dinner.

Those who nurse in public probably think that they are the only woman who are able to nurse and are proud of it and want the world to recognize them. These women should see the light--the USA population didn't reach 300,000,000 this week because it is an exceptional feat only bestoyed on the very few. These women should get their 15 minutes of fame elsewhere if it is that important to them.

Babies are hungry when they're hungry. Breastfeeding is the most healthiest for babies. Grow up people. What was used before bottles?

Scary...nipples...oh my. If you are a man, one must question why you would be so averse to seeing nipples. And if you are a woman, one must assume that you are nipple-less like those wonderfully realisitic barbie dolls girls love, or that you get undressed each night very carefully so as to avoid seeing your own >gasp< NIPPLES!

I've nursed two babies. Most people never even know when I'm nursing. Sometimes, even with the poor babe stifled under a blanket, with no part of their body or mine visible, someone like you gets offended and raises hell. I'm not nursing because I want 15 minutes of fame--I get that fix by going off on people like you. I'm nursing because it's the best for my babies, and their mental, physical, and emotional health, not to mention my economic situation and the environment. My son has a handicap that predisposes him to digestive problems. If we had bottlefed, he would have probably suffered much more terribly with intestinal disturbances than he did. That's the word from his pediatrician and his neurologist. If you don't want to see nipples, get a blind-fold...they're everywhere...the Superbowl...the check-out line...and under a blanket in my baby's mouth doing exactly what they were created to do.

You've got me confused with another respndend when it comes to being adverse to the sight of nipples--I was only copying a previous response. My only point was that some women think that it is a unique thing to have a baby apparently and that they glory in the fact that they can nurse non-discretely in public to further demonstrate that fact. I have no problem with mothers nursing their children---just keep it between you and your child and I am always happy to accommodate anyone who would like to get their 15 minutes of fame by going off on me.

Did you have difficulty nursing your baby, or having a baby at all? If so, I can understand and identify with feeling sensitive--but sometimes it is impossible to discreetly nurse, and then, everyone has a different idea about what discreet means. I have a lot of friends who nurse in public, with varying degrees of "modesty." Not one of us nurses because we "glory" in having a baby or because we want to rub anyone's face in our being able to nurse. Believe me. I struggled with fertility issues for 10 years before I was able to conceive, and the only motive I have for breastfeeding, public or otherwise, is the desire to have a healthy, happy baby. After all, I waited too long for these babies to want anything else.

When my son was born I was obsessed with "modesty" and "discretion" etc. What cured me was seeing a friend who also wanted to nurse her baby lose that precious opportunity because she was so hung up on "modesty" that she bottlefed everytime she was in public.

There are many things that offend me; Nestle products, Coca Cola, fast food, most bumper stickers, and grown women who still wear lacy socks. But hey, I can look the other way, can't I? Or I can get over it and live a life based on something more substantial than being offended. And that's precisely how I feel people who find nursing offensive should handle themselves.

Hey, everyone, maybe the next time you want to chow down on some offensive fast food, maybe you should take it to the nearest public restroom; you think that's a good enough place for my baby to have her lunch, after all; and I for one do not want to see you eating that Big Mac. Very good points. You seem like a very nice lady and I certainly have no argument with your views. I have seen women flaunt their feminimity(?) when it comes to nursing in public and that is what I object to since some observers are small children who have not yet been told about the birds and the bees and this creates an awkward situation for the poor parents. Discretion is always the better part of valor.

You might start by saying "that mommy is feeding her baby. Let's give her some space." You probably don't see anyone flaunting their femininity; you likely saw someone unapologetically using breasts the way they were intended to be used. This attitude perpetuates society's fetish with breasts as strictly sexual and "naughty." The same way Victorians did about legs and ankles and the like. Nobody wins with this kind of attitude, least of all babies who need adequate nourishment. Formula fails many babies, but satisfies a lot of uptight people who can't stand to see a woman nurse. Formula has killed babies, and the fact that this causes less scandal than a breast in a baby's mouth is shameful and derelict. Everyone needs to get over it. What do you tell your kids when they're in the check-out line looking at those magazine covers bursting with cleavage? Or what about those VS posters at the mall?

You're right again. Maybe we are a little uptight in this country. Maybe we should be more like some European countries with lots of nude beaches and topless TV shows on unrestricted channels. Even better, maybe we should be more like some African countries and just not wear any clothes at all when it gets to hot--after all, heat strokes kill more people than bottle-feeding babies. You're right, maybe we should let it all hang out because that is probably what nature intended. Thanks for setting me straight.
