I doubt HIPPA laws allow UCF officials to discuss a player's medical situation with anyone other than that individual, even the parents. I guess that makes UCF negligent for obeying the law. It has been a long time since I have seen such biased reporting on an issue.

Don't believe what you read here. The Orlando Sentinel is NOT a credible source. I think they forgot what they "learned" while studying journalism in school. One of the rules of citing "anonymous sources" is: Anonymous sources should not be used for personal attacks, accusations of illegal activity, or merely to add color.

I guess the Orlando Sentinel opinion columnists were home sick that day.

The law might not let UCF reveal a player's medical condition to anybody, but I'm guessing most players would tell their parents on their own.

How is the story biased?

Keep it coming Illiana and Kyle!!!! Of course you shouldn't wait to get direct comment from his parents, instead, interview his cousins, 2nd Counsins, and his cousins cousins friends!!! Are youg guys reallly trying to end you journalism career that badly!!!! And for the idiot that spoke of "most athletes would tell there parents," of course they would, but does that mean he did? And if he did does that mean his parents notified every one of his family members, I think not! Lets be real people, this is some garbage journalism!!!!

Listen closely...you can almost hear some attorney whispering in the families ear: "Tell them you never knew and this and you are SURE he would have said something"...

You forgot that a few weeks ago that this paper came out with a "NEW LOOK" and that made it bigger and better and more informed. Someone forgot to tell the editors and writers

Great, responsible jornalism here. Earlier in the week the Sentinel stated that the coroner's office wouldn't release the official cause of death until his parents were notified. Now we find out his parents are out of the country, haven't been notified, and the Slantinel is discussing the results with his cousin! Please stop making a mokery of this young man's death.

Family members and friends said EP never mentioned it? Cousins? Friends?

This is the what you two clowns (Kyle & Iliana) call pertinent information? This is journalism?

You two and the Sentinel make me sick.

It doesn't matter if they told the family or not. They weren't on the field that day. UCF officials knew, UCF officials were on the field that day and they didn't follow recommended protocol.

I was diagnosed with hypertension my 1st year at U of A. I did not tell my cousin and why would I.

I was all for supporting the Sentinel during these Plancher articles but this is just ridiculous. A responsible journalist would have waited and talked to the family which would include the Mother and/or Father. Why would you tell your cousin anything? I guess you are saving the family's reaction for next week so you can rehash the same thing over and over again.

Kyle Hightower and Robyn Shelton if you ever have a family emergency I hope the hospital calls your cousin for your medical history. It might save your life???? Sounds ridiculous doesn’t it.

Soooooooo, we prohibit all blacks with this diagnosis from p[participating in sports? This athlete had already made it through High School sports anyway without a problem.

Hey Sentinel take a look at this article www.scinfo.org/faqtrait.htm it quotes Devard Darling (NFL player and twin brother of Devaughn Darling who died of SCT at FSU) "I know my body. It's important for young athletes as they grow to know their limitations. The No. 1 thing is staying hydrated. But there is a point at which you know something is not right. You need a little rest." It appears that even Devard knows that there is some personal responsibility when these horribly tragic events occur.
