Street Racing... hmm i believe it was a street race, i live in Torrance and i saw the after math of the accident. Number one that car was totally destroyed it was a surprise his GF made it out alive, the skid marks start from the end of the center turn on Crenshaw showing that obviously he lost control in mid turn and went into a skid "Drift" and went in the opposite direction. A factor is a corvette is a fine piece of machinery and believe me when i say this that car can stop when its supposed to if it is driven properly, the fact that poor Andrew chose to "Show Off' his daddy's cool car was a wrong decision, but hey Im 24 and I've made many wrong choices especially when it comes to Street racing or just plain old showing off the cars power type of mentality. RIP Andrew. And for any one else out there. Try to help open up the Legal and Controlled Drag Strips again. LACR has closed its doors and so has the California speedway to street legal drag. We need these controlled environment tracks for reasons like this. To put every one in a safe place, Race, have fun and most importantly BE SAFE. My deepest sympathy to the family.

Dear Injured Girlfriend's Mom, I work at Chadwick School and I was torn to hear about this tragedy. I live nearby the accident scene and pass by the cross everyday. I hope your daughter is feeling better. Everyone involved is in my prayers day and night. I pray for a fast recovery for those who were injured in the accident. Andrew was well known and loved by so many. You stated that Andrew passed shortly before midnight. However, many reports state that he passed on 3/9 and then others say he passed 3/8. Is the date of 3/9 that is also posted on the Rice Mortuary website correct? He will always be remembered. God bless you.

Vindictive one, the accident was Saturday night, and Andrew passed shortly before midnight. Sunday night the students hosted a memorial (not planned by Andrew's parents) at the soccer field and there was another last night. I'm told they will have memorials all week. I'm sure my daughter will attend if she is physically able.
As I mentioned, the students have been incredibly compassionate, waiting with the parents during the surgery. One student visited my daughter at 3 a.m. when she was still in the emergency room, and there has been a flood of students coming to the hospital to visit her, even though the hospital (a major trauma center) is not particularly nearby. We are grateful for the support of the entire community, and particularly of her friends.
As far as taking care of the other victims of the accident, all I can say is that we received a call from the family's insurance company yesterday (the first business day after the accident), and until our other children passed on the message, I didn't know who the insurer was. I can only assume that Andrew's parents called in the accident immediately precisely out of concern for the injured.
The Daily Breeze story, while a nice memorial for Andrew, is only a human interest story and doesn't necessarily answer all the questions people have about the details. Please know that Andrew genuinely was a concerned, compassionate young man, and his friends are concerned, involved and compassionate, as well.
Thank you for your note.

High school friends, please post an update on the young lady's condition, we have been praying for her. You do not need to use her name, some of us know it, but she is under 18 so do not post it.

P.S. To people who are being nasty, the teenagers got the message just by missing their friend you do not need to grandstand here they are smart concerned and dedicated youth and it has been my honor to be acquainted with them. Everyone on earth has made mistakes, everyone has regrets, we let love lift us up and forgive and continue to pursue good and to do right. God is whispering come this way, there is a good way and God is good all the time. God did not cause any young person to die, He wants us to live a long and happy life, making decisions for the good and helping each other along the way.
I know his dad and he is a terrific man who will continue to do right and to love his son's friends, keep him and his wife in your prayers. God wants us to repent (turn away from our mistakes) and do good and stay good not to feel guilty and bad and dwell in our mistakes forever. Condemnation is not where God's head is at, and He feels the pain with the family that the young man was taken before his time. This was not God's will or God's best that this young man was taken so early. In a world that has both good and evil, sickness and health we must press on for the good and not blame God or our parents for every bad thing. There is no conspiracy theory here with the newspaper just compassion and thankfulness for a family that contributed to the whole South Bay community.

17 year olds should not be driving a car with other teens in the car, isn't that a state law?
He was probably trying to impress his girlfriend with how fast this car can go.
The parents of this child should be sued for giving a child a lethal weapon.
Driving should be restricted to going to work or school only for the first 2 years of having a license. Sports cars are not appropriate for new drivers.
The parents fault, 100%. I hope they have a good lawyer.
what the f*** is wrong with you? he wasnt trying to show off for his girlfriend its just the speed he was used to driving. ive been in the car with him countless of times and never once has he ever "showed off" to that extent. hes a loving kid who ALWAYS put his friends and family first.
i came on here to print off the news atricle and i saw this comment and it made me sick to thnk that people only see one side to stories. ya it was stupid for andrew to drive free way speed on crenshaw but who hasnt? and dont f****** say you ve never speed in your life cause you definatly have. he was the most amazing person and twice the man youll ever be so shove your comments up your a**! cause no one wants to hear about how pathetic you are. and while you continue your quest to find your heart maybe youll grow a pair of f****** balls and realize no ones as perfect as you sweety and we cant all suck dick 24/7.

In response to this post. I do not think the car matters. I drove an old 10 year old used car with a plastic radiator when I was in high school. I could eventually reach high speeds and luckily never got into an accident. Had something happened I hope that people would know that I had responible and caring parents that only did the best that they ever could.

I cannot fathom why a parent would let their teenager drive a Corvette or any other vehicle associated with speed. Then again in the article it seems that Andrew had a Mustang - again a vehicle associated with speed! It's unfortunate and tragic that he lost his life due to being a careless teenager and making one mistake. I would never ever let my teenager get behind the wheel of a fast car. My heart goes out to this family.

the only happiness this post is bringing me is the knowledge that every single naive and ridiculously stupid individual who has posted a completely ignorant remark will eventually rot in hell. so, while we all pray for and terribly miss one of the VERY FEW (CLEARLY) good people known to live who is now watching over us in heaven, i suggest you better start prayin.
