glad they are standing behind her. if they stood in front of her, she might smack them. no physical contact between a teacher or administrator and a student is appropriate unless they are doing it to keep them out of harms way (breaking up a fight, grabbing them before they fall down the stairs)

More kids should be punished at school. Lord knows parents are not doing it at home. I remember the day when you got spanked by the principal of your school if you were out of line, and I am 37. I am sure there is much more to this story. It is a shame charges have to be brought against the teacher. Regardless of what, and how and why it happened...Kids are very disrepectful these days. Especially to adults.

no teacher or administrator should have any physical contact with a student unless the student is in danger (i.e. breaking up a fight or catching a student falling down the stairs)

Chalk up another victory for the Beech Grove Police Department!

Shouldn't Dept. Captains be fighting crime instead of doing the work of asst. principals?

Absurd.

What?! They don't think that slapping a student is punishable? Give me a break! She should be fired for her actions. There is no reason for a teach to even touch a student, let alone slap one. She was totally out of line and needs to pay for it. What a disgrace!

You're supposed to be an adult. Grow up and act like an adult. Slapping people around for ANY reason is unacceptable. You could obviously benefit from anger management classes and you shouldn't be teaching children anymore.

This is ridiculous!
Why, in my day, the coach used to pummel us with a closed fist, club or anything he could get his hands on - even a tire iron. What kind of wimps are we raising? If the kid can't handle a little slapping around, just quit!
Certainly, I would never hit a dog during trainging, but this is a child. Kids need to learn to handle this type of training and get over it. Life is tough.

I hope the girl's parents sue the school and the teacher. Go after her personally and take her house, her car, her bank accounts and anything else. Make an example of this pathetic bully that couldn't get a real job and is protected by the worst union in the country, the teacher's union.

Kids - don't tolerate this crap.

What ever happened to the days of when we got paddled or had the threat of being paddled in school if we smarted off or did something against the rules?

She probably deserved it. But yes, there shouldn't be physical contact between students and teachers. It happens. Go file your suit, cuz we all know you're dying to get some money from it.

Sometimes, being a recent High School graduate, class of '05, kids need to be slappped! I bet that girl has needed it for a long time, but her parents are either not home, or don't care to punish the child. This teacher should be applauded. America's children are out of control, and it is because they don't have a healthy fear of authority. I bet that kid neve smarts off to the teacher again!

I'd like to know just how much this kid's mouth went off before the incident. If she was like some of my old classmates, she had a comment for everything and everyone, usually derogatory.

This of course would not excuse slapping a student, no matter how much of a jerk she is. But it wouldn't kill some of these kids to SHUT UP once in a while.

I agree that a teacher should not slap a child under any circumstances but, there is always to 2 sides to every story.I pray that they can get to the bottom of this situation soon.

In a "kangaroo court""-like this one---teacher and students--the teacher will always -LOSE!----'cause the students conspire against the teacher regardless of what did or didnot happen!---Paula Fettig--the accused educator definitely deserves better than this outcome!---Paula -this soon-to-be termination--please accept this as a "set-up" for something--a whole lot better!
